An electric bicycle rider was killed Friday evening in a crash involving a Jeep on Illinois Route 1 in Wabash County.
Illinois State Police Troop 9 reports the crash occurred at approximately 7:08 Friday evening at the intersection of Route 1 and County Road 1120 North, near Mount Carmel.
According to preliminary information, the crash involved a red Jeep and an electric bicycle. The person operating the e-bike was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Jeep reported no injuries.
Both lanes were closed while Illinois State Police investigated the crash but have since reopened.
The identity of the deceased has not yet been released, and authorities have provided no additional details about the circumstances surrounding the collision.
This marks the second fatal traffic accident in Wabash County this week. A pedestrian was killed Monday night in a separate crash on Illinois Route 15 near East 500 Road.
Friday night's fatal crash remains under investigation by Illinois State Police Troop 9.
