BELLMONT MAN IDENTIFIED AS VICTIM OF FATAL E-BIKE CRASH IN WABASH COUNTY

The Wabash County Coroner's Office has identified the man killed Friday evening in a crash involving an electric bicycle and a passenger vehicle on Illinois Route 1 near Mount Carmel.

Wabash County Coroner Shaun Keepes says 26-year-old Ryan D. Haught of Bellmont was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at approximately 7:08 Friday evening at the intersection of Illinois Route 1 and County Road 1120 North.

Illinois State Police Troop 9 reports the crash involved a red Jeep and an electric bicycle operated by Haught. The driver of the Jeep reported no injuries.

Keepes says his office was notified of the fatal crash at approximately 7:30 p.m.

An autopsy has been scheduled for Monday, October 12th.

Responding agencies included Illinois State Police, the Mount Carmel Fire Department, emergency medical services, first responders, Wabash County Emergency Management Agency and the Wabash County Sheriff's Department.

The roadway was temporarily closed while authorities investigated the crash but has since reopened.

Friday's crash was the second fatal traffic accident in Wabash County in five days. A pedestrian was killed Monday night in a separate accident on Illinois Route 15 near East 500 Road.

The circumstances surrounding Friday's collision remain under investigation by Illinois State Police Troop 9.

Coroner Keepes says the report is preliminary, and additional information will be released when appropriate.
