Mt. Carmel Man Sentenced To 20 Years In Prison On Class X Felony Meth Charge

Cassandra Goldman, Wabash County State's Attorney, reports that Jason K. Groves, a 47 year old Mount Carmel, Illinois resident, was sentenced in Wabash County Circuit Court Thursday to twenty (20) years in the Illinois Department of Corrections for Possession with Intent to Deliver Methamphetamine, a Class X felony.

The Defendant was arrested in North Carolina in October of 2019 on an arrest warrant issued July 30, 2019 in Wabash County based on an investigation by the Wabash County Sheriff's Department. Working in conjunction with the Wabash County Sheriff's Department on the investigation, State's Attorney Goldman applied for and obtained a search warrant for Groves' residence, where the charged quantity of methamphetamine was located. The Mount Carmel Police Department assisted with the execution of the search warrant.

Groves' sentence is followed by three (3) years of mandatory supervised release. The sentence was delivered by Circuit Judge Matthew J. Hartrich. The Defendant was represented by Attorney Alan Downen of McLeansboro, Illinois.

FACTS AND CIRCUMSTANCES OF OFFENSE:

That on July 29, 2019 in Wabash County, Illinois, the Defendant, JASON K. GROVES, committed the offense of POSSESSION WITH INTENT TO DELIVER METHAMPHETAMINE, in that said Defendant knowingly and unlawfully possessed with the intent to deliver 15 or more grams but less than 100 grams of a substance containing methamphetamine, in violation of 720 ILCS 646/55(a)(1)(2)(C). A CLASS X FELONY
