Michigan Man Injured In I-70 Wreck Near Effingham

ISP TRAFFIC CRASH ALERT  

 

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by

Illinois State Police District 12 

  

WHAT:                      Personal injury accident  

  

WHERE:                   I-70 e/b two miles east of Effingham.

 

WHEN:                      08/22/2019, 01:25 p.m.         

  

VEHICLES:              UNIT 1 – White, 04, Chevrolet pickup pulling a white, 03, Everest camper.

                                    UNIT 2- Black, 17, Freightliner pulling a white, 15 Stoughton semi-trailer.

 

DRIVER:                   UNIT 1- David A. Kallweit, 65 of Lansing, Mi.

                                    UNIT 2- Jeffrey W. Schlieve, 53 of  Bristow, Ok.

                         

PASSENGERS:        UNIT 1- Leanne M. Kallweit, 57 of Lansing, Mi.

 

CHARGES:               UNIT 1 – Failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident.

  

TRANSPORTS:       UNIT 1 – Leanne M. Kallweit by Abbot Ambulance to St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham.

                                               

PRELIMINARY:  Preliminary investigative details indicate traffic on I-70 e/b was slowed or     stopped from milepost 104 to milepost 101 due to back up while a prior accident scene was being removed.   Unit #2 was traveling e/b on I-70 at milepost 101 slowing and coming to a stop.  Unit #1 was traveling behind unit #2 failed to stop and struck the rear of unit #2.  The passenger of unit #1 was transported to Effingham St. Anthony Hospital for treatment.
