28-year-old Thomas Arender of Mt. Carmel was back in court this morning for a pre-trial hearing in his Class 4 felony case of aggravated cruelty. Arender is charged in connection to the starvation death of a pit bull earlier this year.
During a brief appearance this morning in Wabash County Circuit Court before Judge Christopher Weber, State’s Attorney Cassandra Goldman said the state had complied with a discovery motion from the defense and she was waiting for the defense to do likewise. Weber set another pre-trial conference for 9am on July 30th.
Arender has pled not guilty to the charge that he allegedly starved a one year blue pit bull to death earlier this year.
As with Arender’s previous court appearance, members of the Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies were in the courtroom this morning some wearing black t-shirts emblazoned with “Never Again…”.
Arender remains free on a $10,000 bond. A condition of that bond is that he surrendered any pets and not oversee the care of any pets.
