City Council Approves New Contract With Republic

The Mt. Carmel City Council has approved a three year extension of the residential garbage pickup contract with Republic Services, and the new monthly rate is considerably higher than the previous contract. The new contract calls for residential pickup to $12.25 a month the first year, $12.62 the second, and $13 the third year of the pact. Currently, the monthly rate is $7.42 a month.

Before voting for the new contract, commissioner Eric Ikemire says the quality of Republic’s service has been an issue…

Commissioner Justin Dulgar echoed Ikemire’s concern that he had issues with Republic quality of service, but that it has seemed to have improved recently.

The new contract also calls for at least one electronic recycling day each year, which Mayor Joe Judge said could be late this summer or early fall. The only other bid submitted was from Advanced Disposal and was substantially higher than Republic’s.

Commissioners Tom Meeks and Rod Rodriguez were absent from Monday’s meeting which was a continuation of last week’s regular council meeting.
