Olney Man Charged In Weather Related Crash

The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 12

WHAT: Personal Injury Crash

WHERE: U.S. Highway 51 at Fayette County Road 2500 North (South of Ramsey)

WHEN: 12/30/2017 @ 3:55 a.m.

VEHICLES: Unit #1 – Tan 2000 Toyota Tundra Unit #2 – Blue 2015 GMC Avadia

OCCUPANTS: Unit #1 Driver – Eric Lynn Gibbs, 24, Olney IL

Unit #2 Driver – Monica Harris-Williams, 56, Madison IL

PASSENGERS: Unit #1 – Samantha Gibbs, 22, Ramsey IL Unit #2 – Terrance Watson, 37, Ramsey, IL Unit #2 – Female Juvenile, 10, Female Juvenile, 17 Ramsey, IL

CHARGES: Driver Unit #1 – Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident

TRANSPORTS: Driver of Unit #1 was transported to Fayette County Hospital via Fayette County Ambulance. The passenger of Unit #1 was transported to Fayette County Hospital by Rural Med.

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigation shows that Units 1 and 2 were broth traveling Northbound on US Highway 51 just south of Fayette County 2500N. Unit 1 was behind unit 2. The driver of unit 1 lost control of his vehicle due to the icy road conditions. Unit 1 slid over to the oncoming lane of traffic and the passenger side of unit 1 struck the middle driver side and front driver side of unit 2. After striking unit 2, unit 1 left the roadway to the left and struck a telephone pole on the edge of a cornfield.
