Icy Roads Cause Fiery Crash On I-70

WHAT: Personal Injury Crash

WHERE: I-70 E/B @ Milepost 85 WHEN: 12/30/17 @ 3:38 a.m.

VEHICLES: Unit #1 – Red 2014 Toyota Rav 4

DRIVER: Unit #1 – Thang Saw, 38, Aurora, CO

PASSENGERS: Unit #1 – Maung Cing, 38, Denver, CO Solomon Thang, 18, Aurora, CO Zo Ram, 37, Aurora, CO Lian Mang, 31, Aurora, CO

CHARGES: Thang Saw – Driving Too Fast for Conditions/Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid a Crash.

TRANSPORTS: All five occupants were transported via ambulance to HSHS St. Anthony Hospital in Effingham for treatment.

PRELIMINARY: Preliminary investigative details indicate Unit 1 was traveling east on I-70 near milepost 85 in Effingham County. The driver lost control of the vehicle due to icy road conditions. Unit 1 went into a skid, struck the ditch/embankment on the north side of the roadway, and then rolled over before catching fire. All five occupants were able to get out of the vehicle before it became fully engulfed. All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law
