Lady Rockets Finish 2nd In WEAA Tourney

On Thursday, December 6th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets played the Jasper-Geff Lady Polecats in the Championship Game of the WEAA Girls Basketball Conference Tournament, hosted at St. Mary’s Catholic School. Jasper-Geff defeated St. Mary’s 34 – 19. The Lady Rockets overall record drops to 10 – 5, and 7 - 1 in the WEAA Conference. Jasper-Geff lead the entire game, 7-3 at the end of the first quarter; 16 – 5 at halftime; and 30 – 10 at the end of the third quarter.

Lexi Stevens scored 7 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Nora Jones added 4 points, Savannah Zimmerman 3 points, Lindy Rafferty 2 points, Lily Keepes 2 points, and Mady Young 1 point. Lauren Hall, Anna Gill, Kali Walker, Madison Stevens, and Sarah McCorkle also saw playing time. Easton, Robbins, and Gonzalez scored 8 points each to lead Jasper-Geff in scoring.

Rylee Edwards (Jasper-Geff) won the 3 Point Shootout. Savannah Zimmerman (St. Mary’s), Kate Book (New Hope), and Mady Young (St. Mary’s) also participated in the final round of the 3 Point Shootout.

St. Mary’s will be back in action on Wednesday, December 12th, when they travel to Olney St. Joe to take on the Lady Wildcats. The 7th grade game will begin at 6pm, with the 8th grade game to follow.

Allendale-Cisne Basketball Recap

On Thursday, December 6th, the Allendale Yellow Jackets hosted Cisne in WEAA Conference action.  In the C-game, the Yellow Jackets fell in defeat 23-22, as Cisne made a freethrow with 6 seconds remaining in the game.  The C-team is now 4-2 on the season.

In the B-game, Allendale defeated Cisne by the score of 25-19.  Scoring for the Yellow Jackets was:  Carlos Monroy with 10 points, Kollin Kelsey with 6 points, Trent Casburn with 4 points, Matt Jackson with 3 points, and Chandler Cusick with 2 points.  The B-team is now 6-1 on the season.

In the A-game, Cisne defeated the Yellow Jackets by the score of 45-27.  Scoring for Allendale was:  JD Bowser with 9 points, Trent Casburn with 8 points, Kollin Kelsey with 8 points, and Matt Jackson with 2 points.  The A-team is now 3-5 on the season.

Next up for the Yellow Jackets:  at Jasper on Monday, December 10th.  C-game will begin at 5:15 pm.

Lady Rockets Advance To WEAA Championship Game With Win Over St. Joe

On Tuesday, December 4th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets played the Olney St. Joe Lady Wildcats in the semifinal game of the WEAA Girls Basketball Conference Tournament, hosted at St. Mary’s Catholic School. St. Mary’s defeated St. Joe 32 -21, improving their overall record to 10 – 4, and 7 - 0 in the WEAA Conference. The game was tied 10 – 10 at the end of the first quarter; St. Mary’s took the lead at halftime 21 -15; and maintained their lead at the end of third quarter 29 - 18.

Savannah Zimmerman and Nora Jones scored 10 points each to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Mady Young added 8 points, Anna Gill 2 points, and Lexi Stevens 2 points. Lauren Hall, Lindy Rafferty, Lily Keepes, Kali Walker, Madison Stevens, and Sarah McCorkle also saw playing time. Reyse Klier scored 8 points to lead St. Joe in scoring.

St. Mary’s advances to the WEAA Girls Basketball Conference Tournament Championship Game on Thursday, December 6th, at 7:30pm, against Jasper-Geff. Mady Young and Savannah Zimmerman advanced to the finals in the 3 Point Shootout, to be held before the Championship Game.

Rockets Sweep Geff

On Monday December 3 , 2018, the St. Mary’s Boys basketball team traveled to Geff. In the 7th grade game St. Mary Rockets defeated Geff 40-26 to bring the Rockets record to 4-6. St. Mary’s led 18-8 after the first quarter; St. Mary’s took a 27-15 lead into halftime; St. Mary’s led 31-20 at the end of the third quarter. St. Marys outscored Geff 13 – 11 after halftime. Preston Will scored 18 points to lead the Rockets, Elliott Acree added 8 points, Reed Stinson 4 points, Blake Strine 4 points , Brady Porter 2 points, Zaddock Fullop 2 points, Eric Acree 2 points. Also seeing playing time were , Kason Dulgar, Tim Harness, Finn Martin, William Freeland, and John Hefner. Geff was led in scoring by Hunter Garrett and Hunter Welty both with 7 points.

In the fifth grade game St. Mary’s was victorious over Geff 21-3 to bring their record to 7-2 on the season. Elliott Acree led St. Mary’s in scoring with 11 points, Blake Strine added 2 points, Tim Harness 2 points, Zaddok Fullop 2 points, Kason Dulgar 2 points, William Freeland 2 points. Also seeing playing time were Finn Martin, Brady Porter, and John Hefner. St Mary’s led 4-3 after the first quarter; St Mary’s took a 8-3 lead to halftime; St. Mary’s led 17-3 after the third quarter. St Mary’s outscored Geff 13-0 after halftime. Breychan Kovacich led Geff in scoring with 3 points.

St. Mary’s Boys Basketball will be back in action on Monday December 17, 2018 at home against Jasper, there will be a 5th grade game at 6:00 pm with the 7th grade game to follow.

Rockets Split With Grayville

On Friday November 30, 2018, the St. Mary’s Boys basketball team traveled to Grayville. In the 7th grade game St. Mary Rockets Lost to Grayville 57-28 to bring the Rockets record to 3-6. St. Mary’s trailed Grayville 17-9 after the first quarter; St. Mary’s trailed Grayville 37-14 at halftime; St. Mary’s trailed Grayville 53-21 at the end of the third quarter. St.Marys was outscored 20 – 14 after halftime. Elliott Acree scored 9 points to lead the Rockets, Preston Will added 8 points, Reed Stinson 5 points, Brady Porter 4 points, Zaddock Fullop 2 points. Also seeing playing time were , Kason Dulgar, Tim Harness, Blake Strine, Finn Martin, William Freeland, and John Hefner. Grayville was led in scoring by Kanaan Worley with 18 points.

St Mary’s and Grayville both scored 4 points apiece in the second half. A. Lynn led Grayville with 10 points.

MT. CARMEL ELKS ANNOUNCE 47th ANNUAL HOOP SHOOT COMPETITION

UPDATE: Just a reminder that the Elks Hoop Shoot is Saturday morning. A couple of changes need to be communicated. We are changing the location to Mt. Carmel High School instead of the Grade School. Registration will start at 8:00 and competition shooting will begin at 8:30.

MT. CARMEL’S ELKS LODGE #715 WILL HOST THE 47th ANNUAL ELKS HOOP SHOOT COMPETITION ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 15, 2018 AT MT. CARMEL HGH SCHOOL.. REGISTRATION WILL BEGIN AT 8:00 AM. AND COMPETITION SHOOTING WILL START AT 8:30 AM. THIS NATIONAL FREE THROW SHOOTING CONTEST IS FOR BOYS & GIRLS AGES 8-13.

BOYS AND GIRLS 8-9 WILL SHOOT FROM 11 FT AND WILL ALSO USE A GIRLS REGULATION BASKETBALL; ALL OTHERS WILL SHOOT FROM 15 FEET. ALL GIRLS WILL USE A GIRLS REGULATION BASKETBALL, WHILE BOYS 10-13 WILL SHOOT WITH A REGULATION BOYS BASKETBALL.

DOORS WILL OPEN AT 8:00 AM TO SIGN UP FOR THE HOOP SHOOT. NO REGISTRATION FORMS ARE NEEDED THIS YEAR. THE PARTICIPANTS NEED TO SIGN IN AT THEIR RESPECTIVE TABLE WITH THEIR CORRECT AGE.

Jackets Split With St. Joe

On Thursday, November 29th, the Allendale Yellow Jackets hosted St. Joe-Olney in WEAA Conference action.  In the B-game, the Yellow Jackets hung on to win the game 27-21.  Scoring for Allendale was:  Kollin Kelsey with 11 points, Trent Casburn with 8 points, Chase Gher with 4 points, Carlos Monroy with 2 points, and Matt Jackson with 2 points.  The B-team is now 5-1 on the season.

In the A-game, St. Joe defeated the Yellow Jackets by the final score of 50-38.  Scoring for Allendale was:  JD Bowser with 14 points, Kollin Kelsey with 11 points, Carlos Monroy with 5 points, Trent Casburn with 4 points, Wyatt Gher with 2 points, and Clay Morgan with 2 points.  The A-team is now 3-4 on the season.

SMS Rockets Split Pair Of Close Games With St. Joe

On Tuesday November 27, 2018, the St. Mary’s Boys basketball team hosted St. Joe. In the 7th grade game St. Mary Rockets Lost to St. Joe 31-30 to bring the Rockets record to 3-5. St. Mary’s and St. Joe were tied 6-6 after the first quarter; St. Mary’s trailed St.Joe 13-12 at halftime; St. Mary’s and St. Joe were tied 20-20 at the end of the third quarter. St.Marys and St. Joe both scored 18 points after halftime. Preston Will scored 15 points to lead the Rockets, Blake Strine added 5 points, Elliott Acree 4 points, Reed Stinson 4 points, Zaddok Fullop 2 points, Also seeing playing time were , Kason Dulgar, Brady Porter, Tim Harness, and Eric Acree. St. Joe was led in scoring by Trenton Payne with 19 points.

In the fifth grade game St. Mary’s was victorious over St. Joe 32-31 to bring their record to 5-2 on the season. Also seeing playing time were Finn Martin, Tim Harness, Brady Porter, John Hefner, and William Freeland. St Mary’s was outscored 16-8 after the first quarter; 20 to 10 at halftime;26-20 after the third quarter. St Mary’s outscored St. Joe 22 - 11 in the second half to win their fifth game of the season.

Lady Rockets Still Perfect In WEAA

On Wednesday, November 28th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets hosted the Olney St. Joe Lady Wildcats in WEAA Conference play. In the 8th grade game, St. Mary’s defeated St. Joe, 43 – 35 in overtime, improving their overall record to 9 – 4, and 6 - 0 in the WEAA Conference. St. Mary’s trailed 12 - 5 at the end of the first quarter and 16 - 15 at halftime. The Lady Rockets led at the end of third quarter 23 – 21, and the game was tied at 35 at the end of regulation. St. Mary’s outscored St. Joe, 8 – 0 in overtime to secure the Conference win.

Mady Young scored 16 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Savannah Zimmerman added 15 points, Nora Jones 6 points, Lauren Hall 5 points, and Anna Gill 1 point. Lexi Stevens and Lindy Rafferty also saw playing time. Reyse Klier scored 11 points to lead St. Joe in scoring.

St. Mary’s defeated St. Joe in the 7th grade game, 20 - 16. St. Mary’s trailed the entire game, 6 – 0 at the end of the first quarter; 8 - 2 at halftime; and 12 – 11 at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Rockets were able to outscore the Lady Wildcats in the fourth quarter 9 - 4, to secure their win.

Nora Jones led St. Mary’s in scoring with 7 points. Madison Stevens scored 6 points, Sarah McCorkle 5 points, and Kali Walker 2 points. Also seeing playing time were Lily Keepes, Madeleine Mann, and Isabella Jent. Isabella Trupiano led St. Joe in scoring with 7 points.

St. Mary’s Lady Rockets will host the WEAA Conference Tournament next week, with games on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday nights.

In the B-game, Allendale defeated St. Mary's by the final score of 29-14.  Scoring for the Yellow Jackets was:  Kollin Kelsey with 10 points, Trent Casburn with 9 points, Matt Jackson with 6 points, and Carlos Monroy with 4 points.  Scoring for the Rockets was:  Eric Acree with 8 points and Elliott Acree with 6 points.  The Yellow Jackets B-team is now 4-1 on the season.

Yellow Jacket Round Robin Tournament Wrap-Up

In game 1 of the Allendale Yellow Jackets round robin basketball tournament, the Yellow Jackets defeated West Salem 58-37.  The Yellow Jackets led at each stop along the way by jumping out to a 16-9 lead after one quarter and leading 30-14 at halftime.  After the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets had extended their lead and was up 47-28.  Allendale also won the fourth quarter to finish the game at 58-37.  Scoring for the Yellow Jackets was:  Kollin Kelsey with 19 points, JD Bowser with 17 points, Matt Jackson with 11 points, Trent Casburn with 4 points, Sam Medler with 3 points, Wyatt Gher with 2 points, and Roland Foster with 2 points.  Leading the way for West Salem was Maddix Stuessel with 25 points, Gabe Lee with 8 points, Zach Thomas with 2 points, and Wyatt Greathouse with 2 points.  The Yellow Jackets A-team is now 3-2 and will play New Hebron at 7:30 pm for a chance to win the tournament.

Game 3 of the night at the Allendale Yellow Jackets round robin basketball tournament saw New Hebron and Allendale competing for the championship trophy.  After one quarter of play, New Hebron held the lead 9-6.  Going into half-time, with a bucket at the buzzer, New Hebron led the Yellow Jackets 17-15.  The third quarter was nip and tuck, yet Allendale forged a 27-27 tie heading into the final quarter.  But, the fourth quarter was all New Hebron, as they outscored the Yellow Jackets 12-0 in the final frame to win the championship 39-27.  Scoring for the Yellow Jackets was:  JD Bowser with 15 points, Trent Casburn with 9 points, and Kollin Kelsey with 3 points.  The A-team for Allendale is now 3-3 on the season.

Next up for the Yellow Jackets:  Monday, November 26th at home against St. Mary's.  The C-game will begin at 6 pm, followed by the B-game.  On this night, basketball and cross country will be hosting a Chili Supper in the cafeteria from 5-7 pm.  In the library will be the Scholastic Book Fair, so come out to the school and have some chili, buy some books for Christmas gifts, and watch the basketball teams play.  Should be a great night at Allendale School.

Lady Rockets Stay Perfect In WEAA

On Friday, November 16th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets hosted the Jasper-Geff Lady Polecats in WEAA Conference play. In the 8th grade game, St. Mary’s defeated Jasper-Geff, 27 - 18, improving their overall record to 8 – 4, and 5 - 0 in the WEAA Conference. St. Mary’s trailed 12 - 8 at the end of the first quarter and 14 - 13 at halftime. The Lady Rockets came out of the locker room after halftime and outscored Jasper-Geff 14 – 4 in the second half, to secure the conference win.

Savannah Zimmerman scored 13 points to lead St. Mary’s. Mady Young added 6 points, Lexi Stevens 4 points, Lindy Rafferty 2 points, and Anna Gill 2 points. Lauren Hall and Nora Jones also saw playing time. Rylee Edwards scored 12 points to lead Jasper-Geff in scoring.

St. Mary’s defeated Jasper-Geff in the 7th grade game, 22 - 17. At the end of the first quarter, St. Mary’s led 4 – 0; 10 - 7 at halftime; however, Jasper-Geff took a 15 – 14 lead at the end of the third quarter. The Lady Rockets were able to outscore the Lady Polecats in the fourth quarter 8 – 2, to secure their win.

Madison Stevens led St. Mary’s in scoring with 12 points. Nora Jones scored 5 points, Lily Keepes 2 points, Sarah McCorkle 2 points, and Kali Walker 1 point. Also seeing playing time were Madeleine Mann, Isabella Jent, Ava Jent, Natalee Hedge, and Ashlin Trail. Gonzalez led Jasper-Geff in scoring with 6 points.

In the C game, Jasper-Geff defeated St. Mary’s 10 - 2. Scoring for the Lady Rockets was Madeleine Mann with 2 points. Also playing were Isabella Jent, Ava Jent, Natalee Hedge, Courtney Jones, Brianna McCoy, Ashlin Trail, and Gretchen Noll.

St. Mary’s Lady Rockets will next be in action on Wednesday, November 28th, when they host Olney St. Joe.

Lady Rockets Split With Owensville

On Monday, November 12th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets hosted the Owensville Lady Kickapoos. In the 8th grade game, St. Mary’s defeated Owensville, 38 – 7, to improve their overall record to 7 – 4 on the season. St. Mary’s led 13 - 0 at the end of the first quarter; 18 - 2 at halftime; and 31 - 7 at the end of the third quarter.

Savannah Zimmerman scored 15 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Lauren Hall added 8 points, Lexi Stevens 6 points, Mady Young 5 points, Anna Gill 3 points, and Nora Jones 1 point. Also seeing playing time were Lindy Rafferty, Kali Walker, Madison Stevens, and Sarah McCorkle. Kristen Pfohl scored 5 points to lead Owensville.

Owensville defeated St. Mary’s in the 7th grade game, 44 - 14. The Lady Rockets trailed 12 – 2 at the end of the first quarter; 21 - 4 at halftime; and 29 – 11 at the end of the third quarter. Leading the scoring for St. Mary’s was Madison Stevens with 10 points. Additional scoring came from Sarah McCorkle 2 points, Nora Jones 1 point, and Isabella Jent 1 point. Also seeing playing time were Kali Walker, Ava Jent, Madeleine Mann, Courtney Jones, Natalee Hedge, Brianna McCoy, and Ashlin Trail. Chloey Goaham led the Lady Kickapoos with 34 points.

St. Mary’s is back in action this Friday, November 16th, at home against WEAA Conference foe Jasper (Fairfield) Grade School. There will be a C Game starting at 5:15pm, the 7th grade game will begin at 6pm, with the 8th grade game to follow.

Yellow Jackets Fall Sports Banquet

On Sunday, November 11th, Allendale School and St. Mary's School held their cooperative Fall Sports Banquet at the Allendale Ruritan Building. 

Sarah Courter, Cross Country Coach, and Melissa Strine, Volunteer Assistant Coach, awarded 20 student-athletes:  Camryn Strine, Lily Keepes, Kali Walker, Nora Jones, Bella Andrews, Isabella Monroy, Hallie Courter, Jordis Riley, Elizabeth Hefner, Mady Stevens, Kollin Kelsey, Blake Strine, Carlos Monroy, Alex McGinnis, Trentin Casburn, JD Bowser, Brendan Bowser, Wyatt Gher, Trenton Potts, and Roland Foster. 

Special Awards for Cross Country are as follows:  Isabella Monroy and Blake Strine (Rookie of the Year); Brendan Bowser and Hallie Courter (Most Improved Time); Camryn Strine, Lily Keepes, Alex McGinnis, and Kollin Kelsey (MVP). 

In Baseball, Bob Bowser (Coach) and Justin Dulgar (Coach) awarded 10 players for their efforts in the fall season:  JD Bowser, Wyatt Gher, Jesse Brogan, Chase Gher, Brendan Bowser, Kasen Dulgar, Tristan Bray, Blake Strine, Trenton Potts, and Michael Smith.  Special Awards for Baseball are as follows:  Brendan Bowser (Rookie of the Year), Wyatt Gher (Most Improved), JD Bowser and Jesse Brogan (Co-MVP Offense and Pitching).  

Congratulations to the 8th grade participants and best of luck in your high school extra-curricular activities.  We are looking forward to another successful cooperative campaign between the two schools next fall in baseball and cross country.
