Allendale's Season Ends In Regional Semis
On Thursday, January 25th, the SIJHSAA Class S Regional continued with semifinal action at Wabash Valley College. In the first game of the evening, 3-seed New Hebron defeated 2-seed Clay City by the score 53-36. Leading scorers for New Hebron were Nathan Wernz with 18 points, Nagatu Goodrich with 11 points, Preston Green with 10 points, and John Rich with 10 points. Clay City was led by Bryce Marshoff with 12 points.
In game 2 of the night, 1-seed St. Joe (Olney) defeated 4-seed Allendale by the final score of 47-14. Leading scorers for St. Joe (Olney) were Evan Uhl with 15 points, Gabriel Rodriguez with 10 points, and Alec Kocher with 10 points. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were Bryce Lane with 8 points, JD Bowser with 4 points, and Owen Gher with 2 points. The Yellow Jackets A-team ended up 5-13 on the season.
The Championship Game for the SIJHSAA Class S Regional will be on Monday, January 29th featuring St. Joe (Olney) vs. New Hebron beginning at 6 pm at Wabash Valley College.

Jackets Bounce Rockets From Regional
On Tuesday, January 23rd, Wabash Valley College played host to the opening night of the Class S Region 16 SIJHSAA Boy's Basketball Regional.
In Game 1, 3-seeded New Hebron defeated 6-seeded West Salem by the final score of 39-17. Leading scorers for New Hebron were Nathan Wernz with 17 points and Nagatu Goodrich with 12 points. Leading scorer for West Salem was Zane Hayes with 13 points. New Hebron will now play Thursday evening at 6:00 pm against #2 seed Clay City.
In Game 2 of the night, 4-seeded Allendale Yellow Jackets defeated the 5-seeded St. Mary's Rockets by the final score of 42-37. After one quarter of play, the Yellow Jackets led 11-10 and expanded their lead going into halftime to 28-20. St. Mary's came out strong in the third quarter and went on a 10-2 run to tie it up at 30-30 with 2:30 minutes to play in the quarter. But, the Yellow Jackets responded with a 7-2 run to end the quarter and played to a draw in the fourth quarter to win the game. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were: Kollin Kelsey with 21 points, JD Bowser with 17 points, Trentin Casburn with 3 points, and Owen Gher with 1 point. Scoring for the Rockets were: Elliott Acree with 10 points, Gehrig Jones with 9 points, Andrew Goldman with 9 points, Steven Haase with 5 points, and Jesse Brogan with 4 points.
Allendale will now play Thursday evening at 7:15 pm against the #1 seed St. Joe (Olney).
WVC Returns To Spencer Sports Center Wednesday
Wabash Valley College basketball teams are finally back home. They have played five of their last six games on the road. Wednesday evening at the Spencer Sports Center they will host Southeastern Illinois College. The women will tip off at 5:30 and the men to follow at 7:30. The Lady Warriors are ranked 9th in last week’s poll up two spots from the week before. Coach Luke Scheidecker team has won 12 in a row now and is 17-1 on the season and 8-0 in the GRAC.
The Warriors are going to be looking to get back on the winning track after winning seven in a row they have dropped their last two games on the road. Coach Mike Carpenters team is 11-7 and 4-4 in the GRAC.
Lady Rockets C Team Blasts Jasper
On Monday, January 22nd, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets C Team hosted the Jasper Grade School (Fairfield) Lady Polecats. The Lady Rockets defeated the Lady Polecats 42 – 12.
St. Mary’s trailed 6 - 4 at the end of the first quarter; however, the Lady Rockets were able to take a 16 – 8 lead into halftime, and led 28 -12 at the end of the third quarter. Madison Stevens scored 18 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Nora Jones added 10 points, Sarah McCorkle 6 points, Lily Keepes 4 points, Kali Walker 2 points, and Ava Turner 2 points. Ava Best had 6 points for Jasper.
St. Mary’s C Team travels to Olney St. Joe this Friday, January 26th, to take on the Lady Wildcats. The Lady Rockets will play at 6pm, followed by the St. Mary’s Rockets (boys) C Team game.

From Coach Logan Crum: Aces wrestlers finish a close 2nd in Big 8 championship. Vincennes won it with 193 total points followed by Mt Carmel with 177. Every one of our wrestlers placed 1-4 so I am very pleased. Individual results below.

2018 WVC SOFTBALL CAMP
Wabash Valley College will host a Softball Camp on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, 2018. The camp, for girls ages 7-17, will be held in WVC's Spencer Sports Center Gym. Hitting and Fielding will be on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, from 1:00-3:30 p.m. The Pitching portion will be on Saturday, February 10 and Sunday, February 11, from 3:30-4:15 p.m.
The cost is $35 for one day of Hitting and Fielding, $60 for two days of Hitting and Fielding or for one day of Hitting, Fielding, and Pitching. The two-day camp for Hitting, Fielding, and Pitching is $80.
Participants will need to bring their ball gloves and wear tennis shoes. Please wear sweat pants for sliding drills. Bats are optional.
The concession stand will be open for campers to get drinks and snacks.

Lady Rockets Season Ends With Loss To Bluford
On Wednesday, January 17th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets traveled to Jasper Grade School (Fairfield) to take on the Bluford Lady Trojans in second round play of the SIJHSAA Region 8 Tournament. St. Mary’s season was ended with a 37 – 34 loss to Bluford.
St. Mary’s led 9 - 6 at the end of the first quarter; the game was tied at 18 at halftime; and St. Mary’s trailed 32 – 29 at the end of the third quarter. Olivia Stinson scored 11 points to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Savannah Zimmerman added 9 points, Mady Young 8 points, Eden Wankel 4 points, and Emma Keepes 2 points. E. Marlow had 14 points for the Lady Trojans.
St. Mary’s 8th grade team finished their season with a Win / Loss record of 10 – 10. The Lady Rockets look forward to 2018 – 2019 season.
Allendale vs. Geff Basketball
On Thursday, January 11th, the Allendale Yellow Jackets traveled to Geff for three non-conference games. In the C-game, the Yellow Jackets defeated Geff 27-4. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were: Chase Gher with 11 points, Clay Morgan with 4 points, Carlos Monroy with 4 points, Matthew Jackson with 4 points, Trent Casburn with 2 points, and Kollin Kelsey with 2 points. The C-team is now 7-1 on the season.
In the B-game, Allendale defeated Geff 22-19. Scoring for the Yellow Jackets were: Kollin Kelsey with 8 points, Trent Casburn with 7 points, JD Bowser with 5 points, and Carlos Monroy with 2 points. The B-team is now 6-5 on the season.
In the A-game, Geff defeated the Yellow Jackets by the final score of 68-21. Scoring for Allendale were: JD Bowser with 11 points, Bryce Lane with 4 points, Owen Gher with 4 points, and Wyatt Gher with 2 points. The A-team is now 4-12.
Next up for the Yellow Jackets: Monday, January 15th at Albion. B-game at 6 pm with A-game to follow (weather pending).
Lady Warriors Win 9th Straight
At Gallatin, Tennessee last night the Wabash Valley College Lady Warriors picked up their 14th win and nine in a row as they defeated Volunteer State 68 to 50. The Lady Warriors are now 14-1 on the season.
The Lady Warriors jumped out to an early lead and that was all they needed as they were up 36 to 23 at half time. Ashley Moore was the top scorer on the night with 21 points while DeAsia Outlaw had 17 points and 8 rebounds. Maria Hunter had 10 points and Ruby Angok would have 8 points and had 10 rebounds.
Mariah McCully the Lady Warriors leading scorer did not make the trip as she was out with the flu. Coach Luke Scheidecker's wife had a baby girl on Monday and Assistant coach Jack Trosper coached the team last night in his absence.
Warriors Fight For Win Over Lewis & Clark
Wednesday night at the Spencer Sports Center Wabash Valley won a hard fought victory in a non conference contest. WVC 10-5 defeated Lewis and Clark 8-5 by the score of 88 to 77. The first half saw both teams make runs of four to six points. With the score 22 to 20 with nine minutes left in the half Marcel Cherry, Jordan Bell would score and Jalen Newsom would connect on a three to put WVC up for good 29 to 21. The Trailblazers would make a run at the end of the half to make the score 41 to 40 when Aaron Jones would connect on a three before the buzzer.
In the second half it was the Marcus Garrett, Austin Trice and Tyresse Williford show. Garrett ended the game with 22 points, Trice had 20 and team high 16 rebounds, Williford collected 15 points and Newsom had 12. In the last five minutes of the game the Trailblazers would close the gap again to 74 to 72 but WVC would out score them 14 to five to get the win. Trice scored back to back baskets to give the Warriors some breathing room at 78 to 72.
WVC will be back in GRAC play this Saturday at home against sister college Lincoln Trail. The women will tip off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30.
Softball Camp At OCC Next Month
Olney Central College will host its annual Winter Softball Camp on Saturday, Feb. 3 in the OCC Gym.
The OCC coaching staff and players will lead the camp, which focuses on hitting and defense. Ages 6-12 will meet from 10 a.m. to noon while those ages 13-17 will meet from noon to 2 p.m. Participants should bring their gloves, bats, helmets and tennis shoes.

Lady Warriors Ranked 11th In This Week's NJCAA Poll
The new NJCAA National poll came out yesterday and WVC Lady Warriors moved up one spot to 11th. We are the only Women’s program in District 16 that is nationally ranked.
WVC is currently 13-1 and 5-0 in the Great Rivers Athletic Conference. They are on an eight game win streak.
The only team to beat WVC is Moberly Area College. They lost in overtime at Moberly in late November…MAC is ranked 9th and are 16-0.
There is a new number one women’s team in the new poll. Shelton State from Alabama defeated Gulf Coast on the road who was number one at the time 62 to 54. New Mexico is #2 with 17-0 record and Gulf Coast fell to #3 with 13-1 record. Northwest Florida State is #4 at 16-0 and Trinity Valley out of Texas is #5 with a 14-1 record. Tallahassee fell from 4th to 6th in this week’s poll after losing to Gulf Coast at home 81 to 64. The top 15 schools remained about the same with the exception of South Georgia Tech who fell from #7 to 14th with a 16-3 record. Collin County out of Texas moved from 20th to 15th with a 15-1 record.
OCC Winter Baseball Camp Next Month
— The Olney Central College baseball team and coaching staff invite players ages 5 to 12 to participate in the annual Winter Youth League Camp.
The camp will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 25 in the OCC Gymnasium and Britton’s Bullpen. Participants will enjoy a fun afternoon of working with and learning baseball skills from the OCC coaching staff and players.
The cost is $60 and those attending will need to bring a bat, glove, helmet and shoes.

VU #2 In This Week's NJCAA Poll
In this week’s NJCAA National Men’s Basketball Poll Vincennes University 16-0 is still number two behind Northwest Florida State 18-0. Indian Hills Iowa 18-0 is #3 while Salt Lake Utah 18-1 is #4 to round out the top four. Florida Southwestern State moved from 12th to #5 this week with a 16-1 record. John Logan 12-2 is the only other team from District 16 that is in the top 25 ranked 17th this week down from 14th in the last rankings. Pat Smith and his Moberly Area College Greyhounds are 11th this week down from 8th in the last poll and are 15-2.
Lady Rockets Advance In Regional
On Tuesday, January 9th, the St. Mary’s Lady Rockets traveled to Jasper Grade School (Fairfield) to take on the Kell-Farrington Lady Indians in first round play of the SIJHSAA Region 8 Tournament. St. Mary’s advanced to the second round of the Tournament by defeating Kell-Farrington, 45 – 22.
St. Mary’s led 10 - 9 at the end of the first quarter; 26 - 15 at halftime; and 39 - 19 at the end of the third quarter. Mady Young and Savannah Zimmerman scored 16 points each to lead St. Mary’s in scoring. Olivia Stinson added 9 points, Emma Keepes 2 points, and Lindy Rafferty 2 points. Also seeing playing time were Maleah Armstrong, Eden Wankel, Lauren Hall, Anna Gill, Lexi Stevens, Olivia Trimble, and Nevada Brown. Frey and Knight each scored 6 points for the Lady Indians.
St. Mary’s will play Bluford in the second-round of the SIJHSAA Regional Tournament on Friday, January 12th, at 6pm at Jasper Grade School. Bluford upset the number one seeded Jasper to advance to Friday’s game.
Ticket Info For CWCIT
The 39th Annual Carmi-White County Invitational Tournament will be held on January 15, 17, 19, and 20, 2018. The participating teams are Carmi-White County, Fairfield, Harrisburg, Mt. Carmel, Edwards County and Mt. Vernon, IN. This will be a six-team round robin tournament with each team playing five games.
There will be three games each session, with 2 sessions on Saturday, January 20th. Games will begin at 5:30, 7:00 and 8:30 on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. Saturday games will begin at 10:00 am, 11:30 am, 1:00 pm, 5:00 pm, 6:30 pm and 8:00 pm. The doors will open 45 minutes before each session.
CWCHS fans who have reserved chairback seats will be given the opportunity to reserve their seats for $5.00 per seat per session. These tickets may be picked up in the high school office on Thursday and Friday, January 11 and 12, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Chairback seats that are not reserved by their holder will be sold to the public at the south gate only for $5.00 per seat per session. General admission seats will be $5.00 per session for adults and $2.00 per session for students.
