Wednesday night at the Spencer Sports Center Wabash Valley won a hard fought victory in a non conference contest. WVC 10-5 defeated Lewis and Clark 8-5 by the score of 88 to 77. The first half saw both teams make runs of four to six points. With the score 22 to 20 with nine minutes left in the half Marcel Cherry, Jordan Bell would score and Jalen Newsom would connect on a three to put WVC up for good 29 to 21. The Trailblazers would make a run at the end of the half to make the score 41 to 40 when Aaron Jones would connect on a three before the buzzer.
In the second half it was the Marcus Garrett, Austin Trice and Tyresse Williford show. Garrett ended the game with 22 points, Trice had 20 and team high 16 rebounds, Williford collected 15 points and Newsom had 12. In the last five minutes of the game the Trailblazers would close the gap again to 74 to 72 but WVC would out score them 14 to five to get the win. Trice scored back to back baskets to give the Warriors some breathing room at 78 to 72.
WVC will be back in GRAC play this Saturday at home against sister college Lincoln Trail. The women will tip off at 5:30 and the men at 7:30.
