Carolyn J. Faughn, 76

Carolyn J. Faughn, 76, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, August 1, 2023, at her daughter’s house surrounded by her family. She was born on December 26, 1946, in Vincennes, Indiana, the daughter of Teddie Jr. and Dorothy (Schultz) VanMatre.

Carolyn spent her younger years working odd jobs and raising her four children. In 1986, when she was 39 years old, she got her GED and in 1987 she obtained her CNA license through Wabash Valley College. Carolyn worked at General Baptist Nursing Home for many years, and then went to work for Addus Home Health. She retired from Addus at the age of 70. Carolyn was the happiest living in the country. What she enjoyed the most was her alone time, her quiet time, sitting in the dark after everyone was in bed with the windows open and listening to the frogs, crickets, and just the peace and quiet. She found comfort in sitting on the porch listening to the rain. Carolyn’s motto was “I love my kids and I did my job”. She will be greatly missed, and in her family’s hearts forever.

Carolyn will be remembered by her four children, Teddie VanMatre, Shawna (James) Johnson, Veronica (Steve) McClane, Danny (Angie) Faughn; grandchildren, Tabitha (Stephen) Ownby, Nicholas Johnson, Dee (Patrick) Iglehart, Michael (Brian) Knapp, Jaimie (Matt) Hollen, Janice (Jacob) Walther, Gracie Johnson, Felicia VanMatre, Natosha (Jeramie) Martin, MaKayla McClane, Dalton Faughn, Blake (Bethaney) Delong, Christopher Delong, Breanna (Josh) Cullen; twenty-five great grandchildren; sister, Rose (Richard) Fesler; sister-in-law, Tina VanMatre; two special men in her heart that she helped raise, David Hutton and Christopher Hutton..

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul “Bud” VanMatre; one great-granddaughter, Emberlyn Nicole Black.
