Bruce Wayne Lane, 73

Bruce Wayne Lane, 73, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2026. He was born on June 18, 1953, in Mount Carmel, Illinois, son of Carl and Amanza (Newkirk) Lane. Bruce was a kind and caring man whose love for his family and warm heart touched the lives of everyone who knew him. Bruce proudly served his Country after enlisting in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War, answering the call to serve with courage and dedication. When asked why he got out of the service, Bruce simply replied, “Because the war is over and there was nothing more for me to do.”

A true jack of all trades, Bruce was a hardworking man who could do a little bit of everything, with a doctorate in painting, as he would have proudly joked. He dedicated more than 25 years of his life to working for Banks Painting out of Mount Carmel, earning a reputation for his skill, work ethic, and dedication to his craft. Above all else, Bruce was a family man. He was the proud father of three children: Edward, Brittany, and Shannon, whom he loved deeply. His family was at the center of his world, and his caring nature was evident in the way he loved those closest to him.

Bruce had a special gift for making people feel welcome. He never knew a stranger, and it didn't take long for someone he had just met to feel like an old friend. His easygoing spirit, generous heart, and ability to connect with people made him unforgettable to those fortunate enough to know him.

Bruce leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, service, and kindness. He will be remembered not only for the work of his hands but, more importantly, for the goodness of his heart and the love he shared so freely. Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created and the lives he touched will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

Bruce will be lovingly remembered by his son, Edward (Stacee) Glenn; daughter, Shannon (Donny) Harms; grandchildren, Kiah (Colton), Gavin (Madison), Hannah, and Ashtynn; many loved great grandchildren; brother, David Joseph (Lorie) Lane; sister, Diane Michelle (George) Phillips; nieces and nephews, Lance, Lauren, Thomas, Victoria, Amanza, Ronnie, Jody, Patrick, Patricia, Jessie, and Danielle.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Brittany Carter; grandson, Levi; brother, Jeffery Scott; sister, Carla Marie; niece, Jaimie; nephew, Kevin.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2026, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be held at 1:00 p.m., Friday, November 6, 2026, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. Full Military Honors will be conducted following the service.

Semper Fi, Bruce. Your service, your love, and your memory will never be forgotten. Your watch is done; we will take it from here. Rest easy my brother.
