Margaret Ann Burroughs, 90

Margaret Ann Burroughs, 90, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Oakview Heights Continuous Care and Rehabilitation. She was born on Sunday, October 21, 1934, in Parma, MO, to Louis M. and Alleene (Smith) Knight. On September 30, 1950, Margaret married Mervin R. Burroughs in Wayne County, Illinois. He preceded her in death on Tuesday, June 17, 2014.

Margaret was an LPN who had worked at local nursing homes for several years. She also kept busy with church work as her husband, Mervin, pastored various churches in Wabash County. Margaret loved camping, playing bingo, and working on jigsaw puzzles. She also enjoyed attending auctions and always loved looking for a bargain. Family was important to her, especially her grandchildren. She was an excellent cook and served many wonderful meals at her dining room table.

She is survived by her two daughters, Vicki (David) Litherland and Teresa (Tom) Beuligmann, both of Mt. Carmel; two grandchildren, Nathan (Elizabeth) Litherland of Evansville, IN and Andrea (James) Leadingham of Carterville IL; five great-grandchildren, Ava and Eli Litherland and Lillian, Andrew, and Colton Leadingham. Also surviving is her sister Mary Ann (Larry) Pinion of Edwardsville, IL, brother Ray (Doris) Knight of Zephyr Hills FL, and sister-in-law, Mary Lou Knight of Grayville, IL. Several nieces and nephews also survive. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Mervin Burroughs, brothers Louis Jr, George, John, and Joe.

Visitation will be held Monday, July 21, 2025, from 9:00 am until 11:00 am at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am in the chapel of Short Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N Mulberry St, Mt. Carmel IL.

Burial at Highland Memorial Cemetery will follow the service.
