Roger D. McCoy, Sr., of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, December 27, 2024, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.
Services will be held Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, with military rites being performed by the Mt. Carmel Honor Guard.
Visitation will be Saturday, January 11, 2025, from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home.
Roger was born January 15, 1946, in Willow Hill, Illinois, the son of Gus McCoy, Sr. and Gertrude McCoy Beach. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School and attended Art College. Roger proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. He received a bronze star and five other metals.
Roger worked for Norman Madison as a farm laborer. He loved putting trains together and making an entire town for the train to run through. Roger enjoyed playing games on his phone.
He is survived by his son, Roger McCoy, Jr. of Davenport, Iowa; daughters, Jamie Cartmill of Carmi, Illinois, Heather Ajayi and Patty Graves from Mt. Carmel, Illinois; eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; six brothers and five sisters.
Preceding Roger in death were his father, Gus McCoy, mother Gertrude McCoy Beach, and a son, Randy McCoy.
