Mary E. Baker, 69

Mary E. Baker, 69, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2023, at Wabash General Hospital, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on April 25, 1954, in Hammond, Indiana, daughter of James and Mary (Fitch) Shoulders.

Mary worked in the healthcare field as a caregiver, as manager at Subway restaurant and Red and White grocery store. She was fascinated by antiques which led her to begin buying and selling them as a side business. She and her son Blake enjoyed eating at the Guacamole Grill in Princeton, and on Wednesday evenings they joined a big group of local families at Tequila’s in Mount Carmel to socialize. Mary enjoyed traveling and taking bus trips, especially to Niagara Falls and Mackinac Island. She had a love for animals and had seven fur-babies at home. She was a lifetime member of the VFW In Lawrenceville, IL, and an active member of First Baptist Church. Mary will be dearly missed by all who knew her.

Mary leaves behind two sons, Blake Baker of Mount Carmel and Oden Strickland of Enfield, IL; sister, Wilma Noel of Lawrenceville, IL; half-brother, Gerald Shoulders; three grandchildren, Maylyn Miller, Jarrett Miller and Krislyn Stiles; one great-granddaughter, Willow Miller.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Sue Lyle; and one niece, Liberty Noel.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at First Baptist Church 130 W 6th St., in Mount Carmel.

Funeral Services will be at 1:00 p.m., Monday, July 24, 2023, at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Stephen Freels officiating.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mary’s memory to Wabash County Animal Shelter Buddies or the Wabash Rally Against Cancer (WRAC). Envelopes will be at the church or may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
