Kenneth “Kenny” Howell Jr., 74, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, June 7, 2023, at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, Illinois, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on December 10,1948 in Keensburg, Illinois, the son of Kenneth Howell, Sr., and Mary “Frances” (Strothers) Howell. He married Sally Crackel on May 4, 1968, at Browns Church and together they enjoyed fifty-five years of marriage until her passing on April 6, 2023.
Kenny faithfully served his country in the United States Marines, where he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Rifle Expert Badge and commended with Meritorious Mast. He lived most of his life in the Keensburg area and was a hard-working first-generation farmer for twenty-five years. In his spare time, he enjoyed boating and camping with the family. Kenny and Sally loved to get in the car and go for an adventure, whatever direction they were led that day. Kenny was a kind and caring man who will be dearly missed by his family and friends.
Kenny leaves behind his son, Todd Howell; daughters, Natalie Howell and friend, Nathan Newsum, Ali Martin and husband, Lee; four grandchildren, Ryan (Paige Morehead) Allen, Blake Allen, Kiarra Martin, and Judd Martin; one sister, Shirley (John) Summers.
In addition to his beloved wife, Sally, Kenny was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside Services will be at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 10, 2023 at Browns Cemetery in Edwards County, Illinois, with Pastor Kenny Bailey officiating.
