George Yoak Wintle, 86

George Yoak Wintle, 86, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Wednesday, April 5, 2023, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana, surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on July 29, 1936, in West Pittston, Pennsylvania, the son of Oscar William and Geraldine (Yoak) Wintle.

George earned a Bachelor Degree in Engineering from Purdue University in 1971. He worked as a Mechanical Engineer at Duke Energy for thirty-one years. George proudly served his country in the United States Navy where he was honored with a National Defense Service award, and twice presented with Good Conduct metals. He studied Naval Nuclear Power Training, and Instructors Class C-1 training, among numerous other classes. George loved sharing his memories of manning the nuclear submarine, USS Nathanael Greene, something he was very proud of. He was excited to be included in the Honor Flight in 2019. He was a motorcycle enthusiast who loved riding his Harley Davidson on long trips, all over the country. George was especially proud of his membership in the Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 6 and enjoyed the many friendships he made there. George was always up for an adventure. He earned his pilot license, owned his own plane, and loved taking his sailboat to Gibson Lake. He looked forward to his weekly golf game with friends every Sunday morning. George had a great sense of humor and liked to tell jokes. He enjoyed baking cookies to take to most everyone he knew. Most of all, George loved his family and could often be found cheering on the grandkids in their sports. He will be dearly missed by his family and friends. In George’s famous words, “Thanks For The Memories”.

George leaves behind twin daughters, Beth Sherman and husband Joshua, Betsy Marshall and husband Daniel, step-daughter, Melissa Dzikowski and husband John; grandchildren, Emily Dzikowski-Bowman (Logan), Matthew Dzikowski, Josh Sherman II, Logan Marshall, Collin Sherman; one great-grandchild, Raeleigh Bowman

George was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Richard and David Wintle.

Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 12:00 p.m.–3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.

Funeral Services will be at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, April 15, 2023, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home with Pastor Steve Williamson officiating. Full Military Honors will be held immediately following the Funeral outside of Keepes Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at a later date.

Memorial Contributions may be made in George’s memory to Rolling Thunder Indiana Chapter 6 or USAMV, the local military honor guard. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home or may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 N Cherry St. Mt. Carmel, IL 62863
