Dana Mae Tate, 98

Dana Mae Tate, 98, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, October 30, 2023, at the Villas of Holly Brook surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be held Monday, November 6, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Short-Cunningham Funeral Home with Barry Roberts officiating.  She will be buried by her beloved husband in Highland Memorial Cemetery following the service.

Visitation will be Monday, November 6, 2023, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service.

Dana was born December 14, 1924, in Keensburg, Illinois, the daughter of George W. and Eva (Douglas) Fitzgerrel, Jr. She graduated from Mt. Carmel High School.  On May 7, 1948, Dana married Charles L. Tate at the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Mt. Carmel, Illinois. To this union a daughter, Ricki was born. Left to cherish Dana’s memory is her daughter Ricki and husband Mike Hays of Mt. Carmel; two grandchildren, Hilary Hays, and Heather Folz and her husband Mark; and two great-grandchildren, Noel and Annie Folz. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, and two sisters, Alberta Atwood and Francis Knight.

During WWII Dana worked at the Chrysler Plant in Evansville, Indiana.  She then worked for Skiles Oil in Mt. Carmel as their secretary. Dana was a member of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ, serving as church secretary for many years.  She was a member of the Wabash General Hospital Ladies Auxiliary.

Dana was an avid golfer and bridge player.   She and Charlie enjoyed traveling and visited all 50 states. Dana especially loved vacationing with her family. Dana was a very affectionate person and liked taking care of people.  She and Charlie sponsored the Wabash Valley College Scholarship, Charles L. Tate Scholarship.

Memorials may be made to the Wabash County Shelter Buddies.  Envelopes will be available at the funeral home
