Thelma Irene Ginther, 103

Thelma Irene Ginther, 103, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, peacefully passed away Monday, August 1, 2022, at Wabash General Hospital surrounded by the love of her family.

 She was born April 29, 1919, in Bridgeport, Illinois, the daughter of Otto E. and Chloe (Leek) Ginther. Her family moved to Mt. Carmel, Illinois, when she was three years old.

 Thelma went to work for Briggs in Evansville, Indiana, as a “Rosie the Riveter” for Navy corsair wings during WWII. She returned home to work at Meissner’s for a while and then to Snap-On Tools where she worked as an inspector until her retirement in 1982.

 She was a lifetime member of Asbury Chapel United Methodist Church. Thelma taught Sunday school, was a member of Elizabeth Homemakers Club, United Methodist Women and was the Chairman of the church.

 Left to cherish Thelma’s memory are a niece, Sandra (Gene) Daum of Greenville, Illinois and a nephew, Larry (Lana) Cusick of Kansas City, Missouri; several great nieces, nephews and cousins; and a great group of caregivers, Marilyn Linn, Patti Ratcliffe, Renee Woods, Jackie Baumgart, Laura Leathers, Vicki Jones, Christina Pierce, Dorothy Kramer, and a special friend, Kevin Davis.

 Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, brother, Gilbert E. Ginther, sisters, Maxine (Ginther) Cusick and Pauline (Ginther) Chapman. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

 Visitation will be Saturday, August 6, 2022, beginning at 1:00 until 2:30 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, with the funeral service following. Burial will be at Highland Memorial Cemetery, 1827 College Drive, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.
