John Curtis Stevens, 74, of Allendale, Illinois, passed away Thursday March 31, 2022, at Select Specialty Hospital in Evansville, Indiana surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on Tuesday April 15, 1947, in Princeton, Indiana, the oldest of two children to Lewis and Lucile (Walter) Stevens. On Saturday November 27, 1971, he married Janis Kay Luth at Saint Mary Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois and together they enjoyed fifty wonderful years of marriage.
John was part owner and operator of Stevens Farms for nearly all his life. He was very proud to carry on the farming legacy of his family dating back over 100 years in Wabash County. Stevens Farms, established in 1890, was designated a Centennial Farm by the Illinois Department of Agriculture. John enjoyed keeping up with all of the new technology involved with the farming operation. He had many friendships in the farming community. He attended grade school at Saint Mary School and was a member of the 1965 graduating class of Allendale High School. John received a degree in agriculture from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. He loved his family dearly, raising two wonderful children, and his grandchildren held a special place in his heart. John was a member of Saint Mary Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
John leaves behind his loving wife, Janis; children, Jill Marguerite (Curtis) Ingram of Chandler, Indiana, and Jeffrey Curtis (Kristi) Stevens of Allendale, Illinois; four grandchildren, Linden Elizabeth Stevens, Marisa Kay Stevens, Jaxon Curtis Ingram, and Jayden Edward Ingram; brother, James Stevens; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Norman and Mary Jo Luth; nephew, Clayton (Lori) Stevens; and nieces Chrissi (Justin) Klostermann, Codie (Brent) Ford, and Sharon Luth. John was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends may gather for Visitation from 10:00 a.m. - Noon on Monday April 4, 2022, at Saint Mary Church. A Funeral Mass will be held at Noon on Monday April 4, 2022, at Saint Mary Church with Father Robert Zwilling as celebrant. Burial will follow at Saint Mary Cemetery, Mount Carmel, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to Saint Mary Church and will be accepted at the Visitation or may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, Illinois 62863-1879.
