William L. McCorkle, 99, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Friday, March 18, 2022 at Oakview Heights Nursing and Rehab surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was born January 1, 1923, the son of Allie and Pearl (Benton) McCorkle in Phillipstown, Illinois. He married the love of his life, Frances Bernice Graham on November 15, 1941 in Cape Girardeau, Missouri. They celebrated 80 years of marriage together. William farmed throughout his lifetime. He worked in the oil field, and was road commissioner for nine years in road district 3 in Wabash County.
Bill was a member of Keensburg Methodist Church. He enjoyed camping and traveling, he liked to go fishing and do woodworking projects. His family was very important to him, he loved nothing more than watching his grandchildren grow and begin their own families.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his wife, Frances; children Sharon Shivers (special friend Larry Jolley) of Evansville Indiana and Steve (Chris) McCorkle; grandchildren, Cindy (Dan) Morel, Brad (Will) Rutter, Chris (Dan) Patterson, Jamie (Chris) McCorkle, Stefanie (Don) Price; great grandchildren, Elliot McCorkle, Sarah McCorkle, Kaleigh Price, Kara Price, Allie Wigginton, Rachel Wiggenton, Brady Patterson, Emily Patterson; and great great grandchildren Weston and Jaemyn Wigginton; and brother, Jim McCorkle of Browns, Illinois.
William was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Lettie Copelin and Margaret Craig.
Visitation for relatives and friends will be Monday, March 21, 2022 from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry St., Mt. Carmel, IL 62863. The funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Phillipstown Cemetery in Phillipstown, Illinois.
The family requests memorials for Bill be given to Mt. Carmel High School FFA. Envelopes are available at the funeral home.
