William “Bill” Robert Wolf, 96, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Saturday, August 14, 2021, at his residence surrounded by the love of his family.
Bill was born July 8, 1925, in Princeton, Indiana, the only child of Frank and Mary F. (Grubb) Wolf. He graduated from Mt. Carmel High School in the class of 1943. Bill went to college at Notre Dame, but left college to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy during WWII. When he returned, he went to the University of North Carolina of Chapel Hill, North Carolina, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree. He was a member of Alpha Tau Omega. On September 15, 1956, Bill married Wanda Lue Westbrook in Mt. Carmel, Illinois at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church.
He was a partner of Hayes-Wolf Oil Company and became owner/operator of Coca Cola Bottling of Mt. Carmel. Bill was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rotary Club for over 70 years, and BPOA Elks #715, where he was a past Exalted Ruler. He was a huge supporter of Mt. Carmel.
Left to cherish Bill’s memory are his sons, William W. Wolf of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, Robert A. Wolf of Evansville, Indiana and Thomas M. Wolf of Mt. Carmel, Illinois; grandchildren, Ryan C. Wolf-King, Lauren Christine Wolf, Mackenzie Storey and husband Kyle Cassada and Jack Thomas Wolf; and great-grandchildren, Lucas Sharp, Drake Moss and Elijah William Wolf.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, wife and granddaughter, Ashley A. Wolf.
Friends and relatives are invited to a visitation Thursday, August 19, 2021, at Short-Cunningham Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m.
A funeral mass will be held Friday, August 20, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 125 W. 5th Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois. He will be buried beside his beloved wife immediately following at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
