Phillip Eugene Schneider, 70, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 19, 2021 at Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Oakland City, Indiana. He was born on April 7, 1950 in Eldorado, Illinois, the son of James J. and Gertrude (Haney) Schneider. Phil married Carol A. Nelson on November 29, 1997 and together they enjoyed twenty years of marriage before her passing on September 4, 2018.
Phil faithfully served his Country in the United States Navy where he served during the Vietnam War. During his service time, Phil earned the Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service and Campaign Medal and the Armed Air Forces Expeditionary Medal.
Phil worked for Fleenor Trucking as an over the road truck driver where he travelled internationally. Phil and Carol loved taking the road together with their fury companion, Star. He also worked in the oil fields at a young age. He had a passion for antique cars and loved attending car shows when he could. Phil was very artistic and enjoyed drawing in his free time. He was of Christian faith and will be missed by his family and all who knew him.
Phil will be remembered by his son, Jason Schneider; brother, Chris (Tammy) Schneider of Carmi; sisters, Susie Kuykendall of Mount Vernon, IN, Marlys (Joe) Brown of Carmi, Linda (Tom) Witherspoon of KY and Mary Webb of IN; many loved grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews.
Phil was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Carol Schneider; son, Timothy Schneider; brothers, Allen Schneider and James David Schneider.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. Social distancing practices will be in place and facial coverings will be required.
Funeral Services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2021, in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. Burial will follow at St. Polycarp Cemetery with Full Military Honors.
