Mary Catherine Jordan, 87

Mary Catherine Jordan, 87, of Evansville Indiana, formerly of Grayville and Mt. Carmel, IL passed away Friday, February 19, 2021 at St. Vincent’s Hospital in Evansville.

She was the oldest child of Malcolm and Ruth F. (Hocking) Mason; born at home April 24, 1933 on the farm in Edwards County, Illinois. Mary loved growing up as a farm girl. She walked to a one-room schoolhouse, Montgomery School north of Albion near their home through grade school. In 1949, Mary graduated from Bone Gap High School at the age of 16 and attended Lincoln Christian College.

Mary married Robert Nile Mann February 20, 1957 in Mt. Carmel. He preceded her in death February 7, 1993. She married Charles W. Jordan September 3, 1993, he preceded her in death February 15, 2015.

She worked much of her life. Some of her employment was as a telephone operator in Mt. Carmel, ten years at the U.S. Postal Service; at Snap On Tools for fifteen years and a school principal for Princeton Christian School.

Mary was a member of First Baptist Church in Grayville. She was a lifelong church pianist and organist. Over the years she taught Sunday School. Church was a big part of her life. She valued work, was a giver, a quiet person that loved her family. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels delivery after retirement.

Mary is survived by her daughter Dana Porter-Brown and her husband Geoffrey Brown of Evansville and grandson Dylan (Ashley) Porter of Hartford, KY.

She was preceded in death by her husbands Robert and Charles, grandson Drew Porter and sister Wilma Jean Greatline.

Visitation for family and friends of Mary Jordan will be Tuesday, February 23, 2021 from 10:00 a.m. until 12 noon in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home in Mt. Carmel. Funeral Service at Short Funeral Home will follow at 12:00 noon. Burial will take place beside her first husband in Highland Memorial Cemetery.
