Don A. Sanders, 88, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, March 23, 2020 at the home of his daughter. He was born January 16, 1932 in Wabash County, the son of John A. Sanders and Iva (Ginther) Hardin.
Don served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, a member of the American Legion and the Masonic Lodge #239 where he was a thirty-two-degree Mason and served as Past Master four times. He was also a member of the Shriners Club. Don retired from Snap On Tools and during his retirement, he was a dealer for steel carports. In his younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Don loved his family very much. He was a member of Heartland Worship center and he will be missed.
Don leaves behind his daughter, Jeri (Kevin Cowling) Glick; step-children, Debbie (Dwayne) Lewis, Don Henry, Stephen Henry; grandchildren, Jimmy (Ariel) Glick, Jamie (Ryan) Hipsher; step-grandchildren, Chrissy Henry, Kaycee and Tristan (Shea) Lewis, Blake, Breanna and Brooklyn Henry; great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Hipsher, Arianna Glick; and step-great-grandchildren, Haleigh and Lauren Hipsher.
Don was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon Sanders; sister, Dorothy Foulke; and son-in-law, Jim Glick.
Per Don’s wishes, cremation will take place and a private family burial will be held at Highland Memorial Cemetery. A Masonic Service and Military Rites to honor Don’s life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers or gifts, the family has requested that memorial contributions be made in Don’s memory to the Wabash General Hospital Foundation and may be mailed to Keepes Funeral Home, 1500 North Cherry Street, Mount Carmel, IL 62863.
