Louise Colette (Steckler) Peter, 97, of Mount Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, November 16, 2020, at Gibson General Hospital in Princeton, Indiana. She was born on December 7, 1922, in Wabash County, Illinois, the daughter of Herman Anthony and Louisa Rose (Trapp) Steckler. Louise married Joseph F. Peter on November 24, 1942 at Saint Mary’s Catholic Church in Mount Carmel, Illinois. Together, Joe and Louise enjoyed seventy two years of marriage before his passing on July 21, 2015.
Louise was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She and her husband, Joe, were devoted to raising their family in a loving, faith-filled home. Louise enjoyed riding her horse, Barney, on the family’s dairy/grain farm where she learned the value of hard work and dedication. Louise and Joe owned Third Street Laundromat for many years. Louise had many talents. She was an accomplished seamstress, even making her daughter’s wedding dress. She graduated from cosmetology school. Louise loved music, family meals and time with her grandchildren. She could grow a bountiful garden, always sharing it with others. In their retirement years, Louise and Joe enjoyed traveling the world together. She remained active in the community doing volunteer work. Louise was a devout Catholic, cherished by many and will be dearly missed.
Louise will be remembered by her children, Bernard Peter and wife Carolyn of Evansville, IN, Charlene Ebbott of Indianapolis, IN, Kenneth Peter and wife Naomi of Danville, CA, Marcia Barnlund (deceased), and Barbara Liddle of Princeton, IN; eight grandchildren, Kathy Kaiper, Chris Ebbott, Heather Carroll, Brent Barnlund, Elliott Liddle, Tiffany Barnlund, Emily Liddle and Lindsey Peter; eight great-grandchildren, Shane and Bryce Kaiper, Jackson and Clover Ebbott, Coleton and Cian Carroll, Savannah and Aiden Barnlund; sister, Virginia Cado.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Joe Peter; daughter, Marcia Barnlund; brothers, Robert, Herman J., Sylvester and Norman; daughter-in-law, Donna Nelson Peter; sons-in-law, James Ebbott, Ronald Barnlund and Donald Liddle, Jr.
Due to the current Covid Pandemic, a Mass of Christian burial will be privately held. Louise will be laid to rest next to her husband at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
