Karen Ruth Cochran, 74

Karen Ruth Cochran, 74, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at Select Specialty Hospital, Evansville, Indiana.

Karen was born March 26, 1946 in Herrin, Illinois, the daughter of John Edmond and Annetta Mabel (Whipkey) Cochran.

She was very active in the EUM Evangelical United Methodist Church in Mt. Carmel. She was a member of DAR Daughters of the American Revolution and was Home Extension Advisor for Wabash County for 6 years. She graduated Elverado High School of Elkville, IL and SIU-Carbondale. Karen owned and operated Karen’s Fabric for 15 years. She taught Home Economics at MCHS and also taught at Wabash Valley College and was a substitute teacher in District 348. She was a seamstress and quilter.

Karen is survived by brothers, Kenneth Cochran of Murphysboro, IL, Lynn (Judy) Cochran of St. Charles, MO; sister Patricia Simons of Morris, IL; eight nieces and nephews; nine grand nieces and nephews; and special friends Kathy and Ron Brand and their children Rebecca and Steven.

She is preceded in death by her parents, sister-in-law Joyce Cochran; brother-in-law Larry Simons.

At Karen’s request there will be no formal Service. She will be cremated with burial at Osage Cemetery in Franklin County, Illinois.
