Larry Sloss, Sr., 78, of Bellmont, Illinois, passed away on Friday, August 9, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family. He was born on October 15, 1940 in Bellmont, Illinois, the son of James and Marybel (Hinderliter) Sloss. He married Trudie Hallam on June 17, 1961 and together they enjoyed fifty-eight years of marriage.
Larry was very proud of his family and loved spending time with them. He always loved family get togethers hosting fish fry’s, chowder’s and pool parties at his house. For thirty years he owned and operated Sloss Ice Company in Bellmont, IL, providing the area with fresh quality ice. During Larry’s younger years, he enjoyed the sport of drag racing and won many trophies. He also played baseball and was especially fond of playing the position of pitcher. Among his hobbies, Larry loved fishing and tinkering with car restoration.
Larry faithfully served in the United States Marine Corps. He was a lifelong resident of Bellmont where he served as past Mayor and Village Trustee. He also taught
Tae Kwon Do at many Junior Colleges.
Larry will be remembered by his son, Larry Sloss, Jr. and his wife Theresa of Mount Carmel; daughter, Angie Sloss of Bellmont; grandchildren, Damon (Kristenia) Sloss and Heather (Jordan) Fischer; great grandchildren, Ryder and Carson Sloss, Avalyn Fischer, Nathanial, Matthias and Annelise Garrison; sister, Peggy Walling and husband Brad of Bellmont; and many loved nieces and nephews.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a Visitation from 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 13, 2019 in the Chapel of Keepes Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery in Bellmont, IL with Full Military Honors.
