Thomas Amon Andrews, 86

Thomas Amon Andrews, 86, of Mt. Carmel, Illinois, passed away Monday, February 4, 2019, at The Villages at Oak Ridge in Washington, Indiana.

 He was born in September 10, 1932, in Mt. Carmel, Illinois, the only child of Chester and Bessie (Lowe) Andrews.  Tom graduated from Mt. Carmel High School.  He entered the U.S. Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict.  On August 3, 1953, Tom married Barbara June Mabry, in Marshall, Illinois.  After his arrival home from the service, Tom attended Oakland City University and then went on to Eastern Illinois University receiving his Master’s Degree.    

 Tom worked at the Allendale High School (1961-1965 7th Grade, 1965-1975 Business Teacher High School, 1975-1979 Principal) where he also coached baseball and basketball.  After leaving Allendale High School, he went to work at Wabash Valley College (9/7/1975 Part-time Adjunct Instructor, 8/28/1979-5/31/1994 Full Time, then retiring 5/31/1994, 8/1/1994-6/15/2016 Adjunct, Special Projects, Community Ed, etc) .  Tom was in charge of the Wabash Valley College marketing and mid-management departments and taught business classes.  In 1994, Tom retired from Wabash Valley College, continuing to teach only part time. 

 Tom loved woodworking and running his business, Hickory Corner Wood Creations.  Some of his creations were cutting boards, trivets, candle holders and small tables which he displayed and sold for several years at craft shows.  Tom and Barbara enjoyed years of traveling coast to coast. 

 Left to cherish Tom’s memory are his two sons, Michael Andrews of Florida and Stephen Andrews of Louisiana; five grandchildren, Nathan Andrews, Ethan Andrews, KeeLee Guste, Stephanie Andrews and Dalton Andrews; and six great-grandchildren.

 Tom is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Barbara of 64 years.

 Visitation for friends and family will be Thursday, February 7, 2019, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. (CST) in the Chapel of Short Funeral Home, 527 N. Mulberry Street, Mt. Carmel, Illinois.  A funeral service will be held Friday, February 8, 2019, at 11:00 a.m. (CST) at Short Funeral Home.  Burial will follow at Highland Memorial Cemetery. 

 Memorials may be made to the Wabash Valley College Foundation.  Envelopes will be available at Short Funeral Home.
