Dewey “Sonny” Eugene Easter

Dewey “Sonny” Eugene Easter, age 75, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at Daviess County Hospital in Washington, Indiana.

Sonny was born in Lancaster, Illinois on August 6, 1943, to the late Charles and Lois (Stewart) Easter.  He attended Mt. Carmel High School, in the graduating Class of 1961.  He proudly served in the U.S. Army in the Vietnam War.  On August 20, 1967, Sonny married Barbara Lant.  He worked at Pacific Press and Shear for 37 years.  Sonny also worked for the Highway Machine Company and West Side Automation.

Sonny’s family described him as kind, loving, supportive, devoted, and patient.  These characteristics were continuously displayed in his love towards his family, especially with his grandchildren.  He was always overjoyed to be able to spend time with them, watch them play sports, and see them achieve many milestones throughout life.

Bowling, playing golf and baseball, fishing, mushroom hunting, and boating were just a few of Sonny’s favorite activities.  He enjoyed drives by the river, socializing with others, and his trips to Taco Tierra to see his “girls.” His intelligence, perseverance, and strong-willed personality led him to teaching himself many skills, some of which were used for his incredible craftsman and iron work that also displayed his beautiful creativity.  Sonny assisted in developing the machine program at Wabash Valley College.  He coached little league baseball for several years.  He was a 50 year Mason.

As a member of EUM Church, Sonny enjoyed attending church with his wife, and his Christian faith grew strong over the years.

Sonny is survived by his wife of 51 years, Barbara (Lant) Easter.  He will also be lovingly remembered by his three children; Shannon (Jon) Cross, David (Laura) Easter, and Dana (Deron) Hawkins; grandchildren, Mackenzie and Andrew Cross, Caiden and Kinley Hawkins, and Quinten Easter; his siblings, Sandy (Harold) Moore, Debbie (Eddie) Lashbrook; and, by cousins, nephews and nieces.

Preceding Sonny in death is his parents; siblings, Gwenda Durrett and Ronnie Easter.

In Sonny’s remembrance, his strength will never be forgotten. The love and adoration he had towards his family and those around him was endless. His wit and humor was ever going, and Sonny will always be remembered as someone with immense compassion and true grit. As Sonny will be deeply missed by his family and friends here on earth, his presence will remain, and he will now live his eternal life in Heaven.
