Student Suspended Following Violent Threat

From District #348 Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer:

Today, after school dismissal, a report was made to the junior high guidance counselor that a violent threat had been made towards two students and the entire junior high school. This information was immediately reported to the Mount Carmel Police Department. The Police Department engaged in an investigation and, with the assistance of the State’s Attorney, determined that enough evidence was available to file charges against the student. The student was immediately suspended out of school. The school will continue to assist in the investigation. I want to thank our guidance department and the Mount Carmel and Wabash County Police for their quick response to this situation.

Lindsey, age 39, of Crestwood, Kentucky for Burglary to Motor Vehicle after police received a compliant regarding Lindsey entering a vehicle which belonged to a resident in the area of 2nd & Mulberry. Lindsey was still in the area when police arrived, claiming he was looking for sanding paper for drywall work. Police later learned that Lindsey was staying at a residence on 3rd Street with a friend. The owner of the burglarized vehicle signed a complaint for Lindsey’s arrest and he was transported to the Wabash County Jail. It should be noted that Lindsey was also observed attempting to enter into another vehicle; however, it was locked preventing his entry. Lindsey was charged and held pending a bond setting by a judge.

Water Issues Big Topic At County Board Meeting

Discussions of water issues took up a majority of yesterday’s Wabash County Commissioners meeting. Board chairman Tim Hocking reported that Monday night’s heavy rains caused water to come into the circuit clerk’s office forcing Angie Crum’s office to close yesterday. Crews recently started replacing the courthouse roof and a lack of guttering caused the issue according to Hocking…

Sheriff Derek Morgan said roof work is scheduled to resume today and could be completed by the end of the week if the weather cooperates.

On another water topic, commissioners approved a change order for more $77,000 to replace the entire roof at the jail. Originally, only a portion of the jail’s roof was going to be replaced, but it was discovered the entire roof needs to be replaced.

The final water discussion dealt with the demolition of the former Accurate Tech Building across from the courthouse. Commissioner Rob Dean said crews found water in the basement caused by a broken water line. Dean said Jeff Guisewite, Inc. crews did not cause the broken line.

Sheriff Updates County Board On Safe-T Act

The New Year’s Eve order by the Illinois Supreme Court to stay the implantation of the pre-trial fairness act portions of the Safety Act affects law enforcement agencies around the state and here in Wabash County. At yesterday’s county board meeting, Sheriff Derek Morgan said State’s Attorney Kelli Storckman filed a temporary restraining last week asking for no cash bail to not take effect in Wabash County..

A hearing on Storckman’s temporary restraining order was cancelled because of the Supreme Court ruling.
