Annual Pothole Battle Tougher This Year For Street Department

The Mt. Carmel street department’s yearly battle against potholes has gotten more difficult this year. Street Department superintendent Dave Easter told the city council pothole patch is scarce this year….

Easter said since the city uses motor fuel tax funds to pay for the patch, the material must meet state specs and requires additional paperwork. Both of which make finding a replacement supplier more difficult.  He asked for motorists’ patience as workers will fill potholes as long as there is patch available.

WGH And WCHD Working Together To Distribute Vaccine

So far, Wabash County Health Department Administrator Judy Wissel said the health department has given 940 COVID vaccines with 500 of those being administered at a clinic last Friday. She said another 500 doses will be given this week.

And as COVID vaccines become more readily available, Wabash General Hospital and the Wabash County Health Department are working together in the distribution. WGH President/CEO Karissa Turner told the hospital board last week how the current vaccine supply chain works…

Turner said the goal is to get the vaccine distributed quickly…

Turner said those wanting the vaccine should avoid calling the hospital and call the health department instead. Currently, Wissel said the focus is getting the vaccine to those 65 and older with a clinic set this week for K through 12 educators along with daycare staff. She said as the 65 and older group wraps up, the health department is continuing to add other groups into the schedule.

WCHD Administrator: Don't Expect To Cut The Line For Vaccine

If you’re tired of waiting to get your COVID-19 vaccination, you’ll need to continue being patient. That’s because local health officials are adhering to the state’s distribution plan. Health Department administrator Judy Wissel explained the process to the county board at their Monday meeting….

The health department plans to administer another 500 doses of the vaccine at a clinic this Friday. That would push the total number of vaccines given locally to almost 1,500.

City Council Awards 3 Year Mowing Contract To Grayville Company

K & K Small Jobs submitted the only bid for the cemetery for 2021 at $20,400, which is the same as last year. But in a departure from previous mowing companies, City Clerk Rudy Witsman said K & K only billed for the times they mowed and that came in at $18,550, saving the city almost $2,000. Street superintendent Dave Easter told the city council the cemeteries were well maintained and he had heard of very few complaints about the job K & K did, especially compared to past years. Based on their performance, the city council agreed to a three year deal with K & K with year two coming at $22,400, and year three at $23,000.
