The Cherry Street Bridge project has caused an increase in detoured traffic onto Mulberry Street and that has drawn the concern of at least one homeowner in that area. John Cooley lives in the 1100 block of Mulberry Street and wants the city to consider placing a stop sign at 11th and Mulberry Streets. Cooley told the city council this week that the increased traffic is driving too fast for the residential area and a three way stop at 11th and Mulberry Streets would increase safety for motorists, pedestrians, and children in the area. Mayor Joe Judge instructed police chief Mike McWilliams to investigate the need for a new stop sign and report back to the council. McWilliams did say officers have increased patrols along that part of Mulberry to cut down on speeders.
