The Mt. Carmel City Council will wait on a Wisconsin firm to finish an evaluation before deciding on the future of the city pool. At their regular meeting yesterday evening, Mayor Joe Judge said since the state has rejected the city’s grant application to help fund an overhaul of the pool, it’s up to the council to figure out where to go moving forward…
Last November, the city council approved spending $2,750 with Burbach Aquatics of Platteville, Wisconsin to evaluate the pool and recommend improvements to the aging facility. Commissioners agreed that before any decisions are made, they need to see Burbach’s report and recommendations. As far as funding any possible improvements, Judge said the city would have to borrow money to cover the cost, which is expected to run well over $1 million. The last major renovation of the pool occurred in 1995.
