Pair Arrested For Allegedly Stealing Copper Wire From Coal Mine

On 04.11.22 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office observed an unauthorized vehicle on the Peabody Energy property (former Amax Coal Mine) at approximately 7:24 a.m.

This area has been under close surveillance for months due to the theft and criminal damage to property involving copper wire.  

Deputies then waited for the vehicle to exit the property and attempted to perform a traffic stop on the blue Chevy with Indiana registration.  

The vehicle failed to stop for deputies and continued into Keensburg where it stopped at 6257 1st in Keensburg. The driver fled inside the residence while the passenger was apprehended. After a brief standoff the driver exited the residence.

The driver, Daniel B. Robbins 43 of Keensburg, and Michael A. Dorris, 30 of Evansville, IN were taken into custody and charged with Theft over $500 and trespass to real property. Dorris received an additional charge of obstruction of justice. Both are being held in the Wabash County Jail awaiting the setting of bond.
