On August 29, 2021, at 8:35 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of a single vehicle accident in the 500 block of East Park Street in Fort Branch. Upon arriving on scene Deputy Brian Naas observed a White 2007 Hyundai passenger car had struck a telephone pole. Upon approaching the driver 30-year-old Billy Stevens of Princeton Deputy Naas detected the strong smell of an alcoholic beverage coming from him. At that point Deputy Naas conducted a roadside DUI investigation. At the conclusion of his investigation Deputy Naas placed Mr. Stevens into custody and transported him to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the jail Mr. Stevens was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated with a Prior Conviction. He has since posted a $750 bond.
Assisting Deputy Naas in his investigation was Deputy U.B. Smith, Haubstadt Officer Riley Farmer, and Indiana State Trooper Tanner Hurley.
All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
