ISP INVESTIGATES FATAL TRAFFIC CRASH
The Following Preliminary Information is Being Released by Illinois State Police District 19
WHAT: Single Vehicle Fatal Traffic Crash
WHERE: Northbound on Forestry Road #534 in the Pounds Hollow Recreation Area, Gallatin County
WHEN: May 1, 2020 at 5:20 P.M.
VEHICLE: Unit 1 – Black 2014 Polaris Razor
DRIVER: Derrick J. Jackson, a 30 year old male from Elizabethtown, IL – Transported by ambulance to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
PASSENGER: Hanna P. McCree, a 23 year old female from Herrin, IL – Pronounced deceased at the scene by the Gallatin County Coroner.
PRELIMINARY: Illinois State Police (ISP) District 19 Troopers responded to investigate a single vehicle crash northbound on Forestry Road #534 in the Pounds Hollow Recreation Area, Gallatin County.
A preliminary investigation indicates the following occurred: Unit 1, a black 2014 Polaris Razor, was traveling northbound on Forestry Road #534 in the Pounds Hollow Recreation Area, Gallatin County when the driver, for unknown reasons, drove onto the east shoulder of the roadway. The driver over corrected, which caused him to lose control of his vehicle. Unit 1 crossed the roadway and struck a tree. Unit 1 continued down a steep embankment. Neither of the occupants were wearing their seatbelts.
A 23 year old female passenger was pronounced deceased at the scene and the driver was transported to a local hospital for treatment of his injuries.
The driver was cited for Operating an ATV in a recreation area by the U.S. Forestry Service and Driving under the influence of alcohol by ISP. The investigation remains ongoing by the ISP Traffic Crash Reconstruction Unit.
CHARGES: Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Operating an ATV in a recreation area and the investigation is continuing.
All subjects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
