On 9/06/19 at 1235 hours Mt. Carmel Police were dispatched to the Mt. Carmel Super 8 Motel in reference to a shots fired call. The caller reported an unknown person shot several times through his motel room door but was unharmed. Officers arrived to the scene and located a suspect, identified as Michael A. Lancaster, age 51, of Mt. Carmel, on the exterior property of the motel. Lancaster was found to have a loaded 9mm handgun in his possession but was taken into custody without incident. Officers entered and cleared the motel for any further suspects. While doing so they found a room unsecured across from the victim's room. A search warrant was requested and granted for this motel room which was registered to Lancaster. During this time an Illinois State Police Crime Scene Investigator arrived for scene processing. During the search officers were able to recover further ammunition for the firearm and suspected methamphetamine. Lancaster was charged with Unlawful Use of Weapon by Felon, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm, and Possession of Methamphetamine. This case is still under investigation with the potential of more charges being filed.
