The Illinois Department of Transportation announces that U.S. 50 between Business U.S. 50 and Illinois 1 in Lawrence County will close at 7 a.m. Monday, Sept. 9. The closure is necessary for removal of a bridge over an abandoned railroad just east of Illinois 1 and construction of new pavement. Eastbound U.S. 50 traffic will be detoured at the Illinois 1 interchange, and westbound traffic will use Business U.S. 50 through Lawrenceville. Work is expected to be complete in approximately six weeks. Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.
