Former Mt. Carmel Mayor George W. Woodcock II passed away this morning at his home at the age of 89.
Woodcock was a long time fixture in the Mt. Carmel community. Among his countless credits, he served two different stints as Mayor, was Wabash County State’s Attorney, and was one of the founders of the Mt. Carmel Booster Club.
City Clerk Rudy Witsman was a long time colleague and friend of Woodcock’s serving on the City Council while Woodcock was mayor and taking over as mayor himself when Woodcock stepped aside…
Woodcock worked for years lobbying for a new bridge be built across the Wabash River in Mt. Carmel. And while the new bridge didn’t happen while Woodcock was mayor, Witsman says it was George’s efforts that eventually paid off….
