On 8/08/19 Mt. Carmel Police arrested Jerry L. Newkirk II, age 42, Bellmont, Dustin I. Fisher, age 23, of Mt. Carmel, Charles R. Leek, age 35, of Mt. Carmel, and Kevin K. Yokel, age 38, of Bellmont for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia following a traffic stop at 5th & Walnut Street. Fisher was given an additional charge of Obstructing Justice as well. While on scene the arresting officer requested a K-9 respond to the traffic stop. Ofc. Hopper and his K-9 “Ace” arrived and conducted free air narcotics sniff on the exterior of Newkirk’s 03 Dodge truck. Ace alerted to the detection of narcotics in the vehicle so a search was conducted. During the search of the vehicle officers located a glass pipe with a burnt residue inside it consistent with the use of illegal narcotics. Also, Fisher was found to have a metal smoking pipe hidden on his person. All subjects were taken into custody and transported to the Wabash County Jail where they were charged and held pending the posting of bond. Mt. Carmel Police were assisted by the Wabash County Sheriff’s Office.
