No "Children At Play" Signs In Mt. Carmel

Signs advising motorists to be careful of children playing won’t be going up in Mt. Carmel. At Monday’s City Council meeting, City Clerk Rudy Witsman said he had received requests asking that “children at play” signs be installed around the city. But, a 2011 letter from the state’s department of transportation directed the city not to install the signs. Street superintendent Dave Easter read the letter to the city council which said the signs may increase liability for the city and could encourage kids to play in the street. Witsman said the key to keeping kids safe in neighborhoods falls on motorists…

Witsman said it was in the city’s best interest not to install the signs and any signs that had previously been up have been taken out.
