#348 School Board Seeks Bids On Two Activity Buses

The Wabash District #348 school board is considering buying up to two activity buses to be used by some sports teams and clubs.

At Monday’s District #348 school board meeting, Superintendent Dr. Chuck Bleyer said the activity buses would replace the need for smaller teams like golf, tennis, and soccer and clubs like the FFA and scholastic bowl from using a much bigger 55-passenger school bus.

Bleyer said the girls golf team recently crammed into one of the district’s SUV’s to go to the state finals and still didn’t have enough room for their equipment.

According to Bleyer, the district and its’ students are “too smart, too respected, and too accomplished” not to have decent transportation.

Board member Theresa Hocking expressed concerns that if the district bought the activity buses, they are not used for transporting athletes to summer camps. She said a policy needs to be implemented on who and where the 14 passenger buses can be used.

Bleyer was instructed to seek bids for two of the activity buses, which the board will then consider.
