Evansville woman arrested on DUI charge after crashing on US 41

On October 13, 2019, at 6:23 p.m. Gibson County Central Dispatch received a 911 report of an accident on US 41 near County Road 100 North. Upon arriving on scene Deputy Smith located a Black 2016 Nissan Ultima that had crashed into an Indiana Department of Transportation Highway Sign. Upon approaching the vehicle Deputy Smith 24-year-old Rachel Lucas of Evansville in the driver’s seat, and upon speaking with her he detected the odor of alcohol coming from her breath. At that point Deputy Smith began a roadside DUI investigation, and upon completing that investigation Ms. Lucas was taken into custody and transported to the Gibson County Jail. Upon arriving at the Gibson County Jail Ms. Lucas was charged with Operating a Vehicle While Intoxicated and Criminal Mischief. She has since posted a $650 bond.

Assisting Deputy Smith in his investigation was Deputy Loren Barchett and Princeton Officer Chelsea Jones.

All Criminal defendants are to be presumed innocent until, and unless proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
