Man Faces Several Charges After Trying To Flee From Police

On 10/22/18 the Wabash County Sheriff's Office conducted a vehicle stop for a traffic infraction at Copp Ave. and Elm St. in Mt. Carmel.  K-9 Roy conducted a free air narcotics sniff of the exterior of the vehicle driven by 60 year old Richard C. Eblen of rural Wabash County.  K-9 Roy alerted to the odor of narcotics within the vehicle.  A subsequent search revealed a plastic baggie with a white crystalline substance.  During a pat down of the driver, Eblen, a glass pipe was discovered in his sock.  Eblen fled the scene and fought with the deputy and Mt. Carmel Police in an attempt to evade arrest.  Eblen was tased and taken into custody.  Eblen is lodged in the Wabash County Jail on charges of Possession of Methamphetamine, possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and resisting a peace officer.  During his initial court appearance Eblen was also charged with Escape.  Bond has been set at $4,000 cash.
