Lady Aces' Rally Falls Short As Robinson Prevails

From Comments by Assistant Coach Bonnie Keepes.:

The MCHS Volleyball team faced Robinson, LIC conference competitors Thursday September 14. The Aces previously beat the Maroons in tournament play, but fell short on their home court.

The Maroons took the first set 25-15, the girls just weren’t on their attacking game. With a high hitting error rate, combined with aggressive marroon play the set was lopsided. The second set the Aces rallied and tightened up the hitting errors, but fell 25-23.

Some highlights were the libero Grace Thacker with 15 digs, Kathryn Blake 9 kills, 8 digs, Sarah McCorkle 18 assists, Piper Belt 2 kills, 5 digs, Maycee Randall 3 kills, Madison Stevens 2 kills, 3 digs, Nora Jones 2 kills, 4 digs, Marissa Goldman and Chandler Cusick 1 dig each.

The JV team took Robinson in 2 sets 25-19, 25-18. They had a slow 0-8 start the first set, but came from behind. They started attacking often and sent over very few free balls to help secure the win. Some highlights were Lyla Keepes 2 Aces, 3 digs, 10 kills, Jayla Johnson 3 Aces, 10 digs, 2 kills, Mattie Armstrong 20 assists, 1 kill, Madellyn Bingham 5 kills, Kyleigh Smith 4 Kills, 1 assist, Mercedes Dillard 7 digs, 1 assist, Kyla Militoni 5 digs, Gabi Peach, 3 digs, 2 kills, Tenley Davis 2 digs.

The Fresh/Soph team won both sets 25-20, 25-17.

The Lady Aces will be back at home Thursday, September 21st facing Casey Westfield. Fresh/Soph will start at 5 o’clock, followed by JV and Varsity.

91 Shot Win Grows Lady Aces' Winning Streak To 198 Straight

From Coach Karin Kelsey:

A big shoutout to all the fans at the course!!! The fairways were lined with fans and we truly appreciate the support!!!

Tonight the Lady Aces were led by Miley Kennard at our match with Olney! Miley earned the Medalist honor when she carded a 35 (-1)! Maria and Zeme played even par with their 36’s! And Emily added her 37 to the team score! Congrats to Elyse on her new personal best, 42! Ava carded a 41. The team score of 144 is even par as a team! That’s just crazy. These girls are incredible and such a joy to watch as they continually try to improve their skills of golf and bring their scores down. They work so well as a team, pushing each other to be the best they can be, and cheering for each other when they earn medalist or achieve a new personal best. This team rocks and I’m extremely proud of them and what a strong team they are Go Miley! Go Lady Aces!

Numbers Back Up Lady Aces' Dominance

Coach Karin Kelsey provided us some interesting facts about Lady Aces Golf that illustrates their level of dominance this decade!

The win this week against Fairfield marked our 197  consecutive win.

Our senior Maria Kennard was on the team that lost to Effingham St. Anthony on September 23, 2020. It was a triangular match at Olney and they had a great player, Macy Ludwig who  shot a 3 under par that day! After that loss we went on to win our Regional and Salem’s Sectional!

Emily Gottman, Miley Kennard, Zeme Moore, Ava Brumagin and Elyse Swanson have not lost a match in their high school golf career!

The consecutive wins are:

After September 23, 2020-

2020- 19-0

2021- 78-0

2022 - 69-0

2023 - 31-0

In 2020 we lost two matches the St. Anthony match and also earlier in 2020 we lost to Massac County by 2 strokes at their Patriot Invite. Our record for 2020 was 40-2. (Covid year, no state tournament)
