Coach Kyle Buss, “Mt. Vernon is 8-0 and probably the best team in the Big 8. The score looks a lot worse than the way we played tonight. I thought we pitched pretty well and played good defense, Mt. Vernon just played very well. Our young team will be a lot better in the long run for playing quality teams like Mt. Vernon.”

Early Titan Lead Seals Fate For Golden Aces

·         Early Lead For Gibson Southern Seals Fate For Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity

·         Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity fell behind early and couldn't come back in a 11-4 loss to Gibson Southern on Thursday. Gibson Southern scored on a single by Spindler in the first inning, a stolen base in the second inning, and a single by Smith in the second inning.

·         Gibson Southern got things started in the first inning.

·         Gibson Southern scored four runs in the sixth inning. The big inning for Gibson Southern came thanks to singles by Elpers and Brievogel and a home run by Hupp.

·         Smith got the win for Gibson Southern. He allowed ten hits and four runs over seven innings, striking out five.

·         Kaleb Applebey took the loss for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity. He allowed five hits and five runs over one inning.

·         Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity saw the ball well today, racking up ten hits in the game. Logan Durham and Adam Stoneberger all managed multiple hits for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity.Stoneberger and Durham each collected two hits to lead Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity.

·         Gibson Southern totaled 14 hits in the game. HuppSpindlerSmith, and Brievogel each racked up multiple hits for Gibson Southern. Hupp went 3-for-3 at the plate to lead Gibson Southern in hits.

Wabash Mission Spring Swing To Feature 80 Games This Weekend In Mt. Carmel

Teams from throughout the area will converge on Mt. Carmel Saturday and Sunday for the Wabash Mission Spring Swing. Organizer Dr. Todd Gill said there are no gate fees this weekend "so it is absolutely free to come watch games. Concession stands will be going at all fields. I know they are having biscuits and gravy at the south end for breakfast. Taco boats, smoked bbq, pork burgers, chili, lemonade shake-ups. 31 teams are coming to town and will play a total of 80 games in two days so we will have games from 8 a.m. until 9:30 p.m. on Saturday and from 8 a.m. until around 7 p.m. on Sunday. Should be an awesome weekend."

Here are the schedule of games. Note that Fields 1, 2, & 3 are at the Little League Complex on South Market Street.

Lady Aces Track Finishes 3rd At Carmi Invite

The Lady Aces competed at the Carmi Invitational yesterday.  They got 3rd place out of 11 teams. First place finishers for the Lady Aces are as follows:
Kami Kline - 400 M - 1:09.21
Jada Smith - 1600 M - 6:10.29

2nd place finishers:

Haley Maguire - 800 M - 2:48.77
Jada Smith - 3200 M - 13:25.95
4 x 100 M Relay - 55:59 (Haley Wright, Madi Piper, Morgan York, Haley Maguire)

Lexie Simmons went the distance in the circle. She gave up 6 earned runs on 12 hits and struck out 5. 

Addie Drone was 4-5 and scored 4 runs. 

Libby Schneider was 3-4 with 1 run and 1 RBI.

Ella Banks was 2-4 with a double and 4 RBI and scored 1 run. 

Allyson Armstrong was 2-3 with 2 RBI.

Faith Fuller was 2-5 with a double. She scored 2 runs and had 2 RBI. 

Lexi Ballard was 2-4 and scored a run. 

Lexie Simmons was 1-4 and had 2 RBI.

Sierra Hannah was 1-4 with a double and scored a run. 

Coach Kyle Buss comments: “We got down 7-2 and just looked a little sluggish. In the 5th inning we cut the lead to 7-5 after a big hit by Allyson Armstrong. In the 6th we took the lead 9-7 after the game tying double by Faith Fuller, and took the lead on a base hit from Ella Banks. After giving up 2 in the 7th and not scoring in the 7th, we escaped a big jam in the Top of the 8th which set the stage for Addie Drone and Ella Banks. After a beautiful Addie Drone bunt, Ella Banks ripped a double in the gap scoring Drone from first base. So proud of our girls for coming back and finding a way to win.”

The SMS Track team participated in a 5-team meet hosted by Allendale on Tuesday, April 17, 2018. Girls claimed 1st place and Boys finished in 5th place.

Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity Can't Catch Up To Carmi

 

  • Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 12-5 loss to Carmi-White County on Friday. Carmi-White County scored on a walk by Ethan Mahon in the first inning, a walk by Cole Blazier in the first inning, a single by Drew Huffer in the first inning, and a single by Travis Black in the second inning.
  • The Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Carmi-White County, giving up 12 runs.
  • Carmi-White County got things moving in the first inning, when Mahon drew a walk, scoring one run.
  • Carmi-White County scored five runs in the fourth inning. Easton StewartBlackMahonBlazier, and Kacee Fulkerson each had RBIs in the frame.
  • Stewart led the Carmi-White County to victory on the pitcher's mound. He went five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out six and walking zero. Blazier threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen.
  • Kaleb Applebey took the loss for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity. He lasted two innings, allowing four hits and six runs while striking out three.
  • Aden Gill led Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity with two hits in four at bats. Kaleb Applebey and Logan Durham each had home runs in the game.
  • Carmi-White County totaled 12 hits. Bryce NorthcottStewartFulkerson, and Black all managed multiple hits for Carmi-White County. Northcott went 4-for-5 at the plate to lead Carmi-White County in hits.

Aces Shut Out Red Hill, 10-0

·         Two Mt. Carmel Golden Aces Varsity Pitchers Combine To Shutout Red Hill

·         Mt. Carmel Golden Aces defeated Red Hill 10-0 on Wednesday as two pitchers combined to throw a shutout. Bret Doan struck out Moore to finish off the game.

·         In the first inning, Mt. Carmel Golden Aces got their offense started when Cade Newkirk singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring one run.

·         Mt. Carmel Golden Aces scored five runs in the second inning. The offensive onslaught by Mt. Carmel Golden Aces was led by Kaleb ApplebeyAden GillLogan Durham, and Evan Kieffer, who all drove in runs.

·         A single by Gross in the second inning was a positive for Red Hill.

·         Adam Stoneberger was credited with the victory for Mt. Carmel Golden Aces. He lasted four innings, allowing two hits and zero runs while striking out four. Doan threw an inning in relief out of the bullpen.

·         Wells took the loss for Red Hill. He allowed four hits and seven runs over two innings.

·         Applebey went 2-for-2 at the plate with a home run to lead Mt. Carmel Golden Aces in hits. Mt. Carmel Golden Aces didn't commit a single error in the field.

Ella Banks had 2 hits and an RBI. 

Lexie Simmons had 2 hits and 2 RBI. 

Madi Merritt had 2 hits, including a HOMERUN and 2 RBI. 

Lexi Ballard also had 2 hits. 

Libby Schneider had 2 hits and scored a run on her 16th Birthday.

Faith Fuller had a hit and scored a run. 

Allyson Armstrong had a big hit in the 7th.

Sierra Hannah had the WALK OFF Sacrifice Fly with the bases loaded and 1 out in the 7th!

Coach Kyle Buss, “What a great come from behind win for our girls. We looked a little rusty at the beginning after being off for a couple of weeks. But our girls battled all game long. We had 14 hits and everybody up and down our lineup played a huge roll. Getting down 5-2 in the 5th we just told them we needed to chip away and get a run every inning. We got 1 in the 5th, 1 in the 6th, then 2 in the 7th. Fun, hard fought win for our girls.”

Lady Aces are in action next at Hamilton County tomorrow at 4:30.

Lady Warriors Continue To Roll With 14th Straight Win

Wabash Valley College Lady Warrior Softball team won two more games on Saturday defeating Rend Lake on the road 9-0 and 13-4. Jade Montgomery got the win in the first game and is now 15-1. Miranda Wagner would go 3 for 4 with two doubles and a home run. Paige Byrd and Hannah Shirley both were 2 for 3 with one RBI. WVC jumped out on top early scoring two runs in the first when Byrd walked and scored on two run homer by Wagner. In the 4th WVC added two more runs on double by Alexis Smith.

Game two WVC scored 13 runs on 14 hits but the game was close early. The score was tied at 4 all in the 4th inning but the Lady Warriors would score four runs in the 5th and 5 in the sixth to take the win. Shirley got the win in this game going five innings and improved to 9-2 on the season. Megan Eder was 2 for 3 with a home run and three RBI’s and she pitched the last inning. Montgomery was 2 for 4 and three RBI’s and Hannah Shirley was 1 for 4 with three RBI’s. Destinee Miles was 2 for 4 with three stolen bases in the game.

WVC is now 26-7 and 16-0 in the GRAC. They are currently on a 14 game win streak. They are set to play at Olney Central on Tuesday and at Southwestern on Thursday before taking on Lake Land College at home Saturday the 14th.
