The Mount Carmel Inter-City League opened last night with the Chiefs edging the Bears and the Packers defeating the Colts.
Chiefs 8, Bears 6
The Chiefs squeezed out an 8-6 win behind Benjamin Brewer, who scored a rushing touchdown and added the two-point conversion. Chandler Cox added a 10-yard reception.
The Bears answered with a 15-yard touchdown run from Braison Inboden. Theo Johnson hit Mark Deming for 15 yards and kept drives alive with designed runs and broken-play gains.
Jonah Bisby forced and recovered a fumble for the Bears. Roman Johnson made multiple stops, and Zeke Crum added several tackles for loss.
Dexter Schilb led the Chiefs defense with a handful of tackles and two tackles for loss. Rhys Mason also recorded tackles for loss, Willy Wheeler was around the ball all night, and Chandler Cox added an interception.
Packers 24, Colts 6
The Packers controlled the game on the ground. Vincent Dean punched in three rushing touchdowns, with Asa Newkirk and Zeke Medler sharing the load and keeping the Colts defense on its heels. Ezra Miller, Taione Bisogni and Abel Barnes helped slow the Colts, and Newkirk sealed it with a late fourth-quarter interception.
The Colts’ only score came from Hunter Prosise, who led them with 96 rushing yards and a touchdown. Westin Wilcox added 45 yards rushing.
On defense for the Colts, Jep Pettyjohn led the way with four tackles for loss and a forced fumble. Jordan Spear added two tackles for loss and a fumble recovery, and Lawson Witsman recorded two tackles for loss. Cole Toutloff recorded three tackles.
