Aces Soccer Report From Ed Berberich:
The MCHS soccer Aces split 2 games recently, traveling to Centralia and losing 4-3, then hosting Olney 2 days later and winning 7-0.
Against Centralia, Britton Heinrich scored 2 goals with Levi Beesley getting the third. Assisting on the goals were Rayce Loudermilk and Heinrich. The Aces took 14 shots, 9 on frame, created 8 additional scoring chances and had 10 interceptions. Tye Kanipe had 3 saves in goal. Centralia took 8 shots, 4 on frame. This was a back & forth affair that we really felt we should have won but some bad luck, and bad plays, on Centralia throw-ins doomed us in this one as they scored 3 of their goals directly from throw-in plays. That's something you rarely see but being a physically smaller team generally we've struggled with clearing throw-ins and corner kicks out of the box. Adding to those struggles is the fact that we've not had the practice time to be able to work on it. We did enough on the field to get the win if we had been sharper, and/or had a bit of luck on our side, on those plays.
In the Olney match, Heinrich scored 3 goals, with Eli Bertram, Jarrett West, Ethan Belt and Rayce Loudermilk scoring 1 apiece. Assisting on the goals were Belt and Rayce Loudermilk with 2 apiece and Ivan Holt with 1. The Aces took 28 shots, 22 on frame, & created 7 additional scoring chances. Tye Kanipe got the shut-out in goal with 1 save. Olney took 2 shots, 1 on frame. This game was similar statistically to our match with Olney last year, which ended in a tie, but this time we finished much better. We also just played with more intensity as I think the guys had last year's result in their minds and didn't want a repeat of that. It was a good bounce-back effort from the team.
